Hi all!
My other half suffers with Asthma especially when we are in a new place. Has anyone with Asthma noticed if their condition was better or worse when in florida?

My daughter has only ever suffered from asthma mildly but my husband is fairly chronice and we have found that neither of them have to use their inhalers very much when we are over there. My husband even drops the Becotide if we are there for 2/3 weeks and still finds he doesn't need the salbutamol no matter how humid the weather.
There's some info here http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/topic_10834.asp and here http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=20312

My son suffers from Astma, but When we are in Florida he never uses them. I don't suppose that applies to everyone. Better check out the website above.

Both of our children suffer and we are allways prepared but never had to use any of the inhalers while in Florida
My partner's son is asthmatic but he never uses his inhalers here. Would advise you bring them in any event.
My daughter spent a year in Florida as part of her university degree course, returning in January. Previous to that her asthma had been very bad and she needed medication to cope with it. Her final term before she left the UK was a real struggle, and she was frequently quite ill. We had to collect her from uni several times as her asthma was so severe, requiring steroids etc.
However, in the year that she spent in Florida she never needed to use anything, and she felt so healthy. It was quite amazing. She flies out again on Saturday for another 3 months.
We cannot explain it, but there must be something 'in the air'! Just wish we knew what, we could bottle it and make our fortune!
:)
Hope you have the same experience, Fairy Cakes!

it's not what's in the air , it more like what isn't in the air.
i certainly didn't use my inhalers very much, and slept a lot better

My Son had a really bad year in 2004 He lost so much weight as he would not eat and the doctors had to pesuade him to drink sugary drinks(Cant buy them these days) As soon as we got to Florida he was off his inhalers and tried very hard to catch up on his years eating with all the burgers. He was so excited that he couldnt see his ribs anymore!
He is a different child out there to the one we have here so full of energy . Even the air- con doesnt seem to affect him.
We make sure that we dont accept pets though as that does make a big difference!
We will have to think about moving.

I'm really pleased to hear that everyone seems better in Florida.
This will be our first time in Florida because all four of us have asthma but my son is particularly bad using a nebuliser daily.
We've had to check his nebuliser in with the aircraft to make sure it's compatible to use on the flight.
It would be fantastic to think that we could have some asthma free time there. Although the flight is a bit of a worry.

My partner is also Asthmatic and has no problems when in Florida,
must be some of that Disney Magic!

I am also asthmatic, numerous hospital admission, but currently it is well controlled. I had absolutely no problems at all. Madabouttigger is right - must be the Disney Magic! [msnsmile]
My son has put on so much weight since we moved to Florida. It's lovely to see him be able to eat normally, now he eats like a hog! Before the chewing used to wear him out

I suffer from asthma and like everyone else has said I too do not use my inhalers in Florida, my condition always seems so much under control when there. Back at home a slight change in the weather will see me back on the inhalers.
It seems to be the same with hey fever too! My eldest son suffers dreadfully here but no sign of it in good old Florida!:)

My son was badly asthmatic and on steroids in the UK which made him gain weight, that and the fact he couldnt do anything because of his breathing. We came to live in Florida and he is cured. Totally. We bought inhalers with us and he has never used them. He has lost loads of weight and is more active and more popular because he is more confident. At 21, he has to get his own visa or be sent home. That just wouldnt be fair, they would be sending him back to a liftime of ill health.

My kids were always fine in FL....I get maybe the odd day of hay fever.....
I have asthma and I am always better when in Florida than at home! Always have my inhalers with me, but they are not generally required whilst there!
