I am staying at a villa where the owner is offering free local calls, as many owners do. How local is local? I will be staying at Emerald Island.

it will be anything with the same dailing code, (407) etc if this is the code for where you are staying you can ring any of those numbers free.

It the villa has a 407 dialling code then it's only the nearer 407 numbers you can call. Our villas are all 407 codes, but whilst you can call Kissimmee 407 numbers for free, you cannot call downtown Orlando 407 numbers as they are not classed as local.

John is right. Although ours is 352 we quickly realised that you couldn't dial all 352 numbers for free as not all of them are local.

This is not true and hence it is actually very difficult to know which calls are free.

True Andy but unless you are using a phone card etc. If you call the number and it works then it's free, if it doesn't work then it wasn't. If you follow?

I can never work out local calls in FL.....its just hit and miss....in MA I have a large local calling area.....but in FL I always use my cell phone or a phone card to be sure.....

Disney is not classed as local either, they are an area on their own

We found this in Feb too!

We could dial 2 dialling codes for free, but not all 407's!

Weird but sort of good too!

Local calls don't get you very far. As others have mentioned the best thing to do is to buy a phone card from a supermarket or 7-11. This will make sure you can call where you want without running up large charges.[^]
