It's amazing the number of inconsiderate parents there are on aeroplanes. When will parents realise that other people do not like to be kicked in the back and constantly jerked about (pardon the expression) by someone elses unruly brats!!

Whenever we've travelled and haven't had 4 seats together we've sat in front of our children so if they start being unruly and disturbing us with the kicks and what have yous they get a swift reprimand promptly followed by a clout on the legs if they continue. Needless to say a word of advise was good enough, but countless people have to suffer because of parents thoughtlessness. Or is it because they don't fancy the kicking?

Maybe you should pay first class so you have the extra room behind you as kids will be kids I am afraid or you could ask for the last row with a bulkhead behind you. I know its really annoying and that parents should stop their children from kicking but for 9 hours its very difficult to keep an eye on them all of that time.
I think you will find most parents pretty good its the odd ones that are not.

I'd agree with Mark & Emma.

We'd like to think our children are well behaved, but with the best will in the world they cannot be good non-stop for 9 hours! We get equally upset about the times when an extremely rude adult passes comments about children in full earshot of everyone.

This obnoxious Yorkshireman (not Florida Pete, I hasten to add!) nearly had Sarah in tears last time we came back from the USA. I was sorely tempted to give him a very large piece of my mind <img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle> But that would be sinking to his level wouldn't it!

With younger children when you're travelling for that length of time, don't give them all their "goodies" in one go, bring out a new "surprise" every hour or so whether it's a new set of crayons, sweets, book etc. otherwise within a short time of getting on the plane they're bored.

And don't forget, if you're taking young babies to take plenty of bottles of water for the baby on the plane, they'll get just as dehydrated as we do by the cabin pressure. Also when coming in to land give them a bottle or dummy to suck on to stop their ears popping, most of them are not too adept at pinching their nose and swallowing and boiled sweets are out!

If a very young baby cries on landing its their natural way of clearing their ears and is nothing to worry about and if they will not take a bottle or dummy don't worry because nature is doing its best.
Also, if you do have a young baby ring the airline and request a sky cot which is excellent, it gives you more room and the baby can play or sleep happily, most airlines have a restriction on ages, most being 6 months or some go by weight, just check with the airline, also many airlines now offer childrens meals (I am sure you all know this by now)they think its great when they have their own special meal.

Virgin also give the kids a snack box (as well as their backpack) when they're getting on the plane to keep them going till the meal is served.
p.s. Mark I thought the babies scream was their way of telling you their ears were hurting.

Yes, they scream when their ears hurt but the movement on their jaw when screaming naturally clears their ears for them.

Thanks Mark. As I said before we could do with the smilies so people know when we're joking.

See I'm all embarrassed for being so stupid.

Sadly inconsiderate people come in all shapes and sizes. Its not only children who kick and push the backs of your seat. Plenty of adults do it too. It is annoying but I think kids have a bit more of an excuse than the adults - and their feet are smaller! LOL.

I think the adults have more of an excuse with the little legroom given on the planes, my 6ft 1 husband has no room to manouevre at all and with the advise being given to keep moving your feet and get up and wonder, has no choice but always bangs the seat in front when he is getting up.

I never used to let our kids walk up and down the plane. Now with this DVT I let them go for their little walks. We flew with BA this time and my kids discovered that the cabin crew have beds upstairs at the back. Also they went into Premier class to have a look - they got stopped going into 1st class.

Emma
My reply to you, yesterday, seems to have disappeared, in case you think I was ignoring you, I said I was using the "royal we" as in I was joking. I guessed from your reply that you knew the science behind the screams.

Hi Theresa

I've seen photos of Florida Pete and it was nothing like him.

I'm sure FP would not be so rude and insensitive :).

Serves you right for marrying someone who obviously likes instruments and things if he's into flying, should have done what I did, married a technophobic chippy, won't touch the computer. Mind you got that wrong thought it meant I'd never have to wait for shelves to be put up!!!

I think the only reason Mick has stayed married to me for 23 years is, if he got divorced he wouldn't be able to work the video or central heating (can just about manage the microwave though!)
