01-05-2005, 18:26
Yes at last the Virgin 747 is now a 400!!! She is fairly new, first airborne May 2001. Reg G-VLIP called Hot Lips!

We got up early, walked 20 minutes through some very muddy fields to a little known plane spotters area VERY close to runwy 24L and here are the photo's......oh and she was 50 minutes late so we were very cold and a touch wet by the time we took these photo's.........

Looks good Julie. You can certainly see the difference in climb angles when compared to the old -200 series that were used on the route!

John it will be better than old Honey Pie and island Lady they had Odessey........

NOVA
During the summer of 2001 Virgin took delivery of five 747-400 aircraft (the cancelled Alitalia order), these were fitted with an Inflight Entertainment system new to Virgin Atlantic supplied by Thales. The new product, called 'Nova' has 8 channels of seat back entertainment consisting of:
Movie channels
2 kids channels (featuring a combination of movies and tv programming)
1 TV channel which works on a cycle basis showing a selection of current TV programming
14 audio channels ranging from soul to Classical music
Moving Skymap display which plots the aircraft's flight path
Bulkhead Telephone
The Nova system is on a selection of LGW 747-400. As these aircraft have Suite fit-outs, they get "Super Nova" (an enhanced version of Nova, but it still ain't V:Port).
Registration Aircraft Name
G-VGAL 747-443 Jersey Girl
G-VLIP 747-443 Hot Lips
G-VROM 747-443 Barbarella
G-VROS 747-443 English Rose
G-VROY 747-443 Pretty Woman

Hope this helps?[msnsmile]

LOL - the Manchester Virgin moving map never worked on the old B747-200's so I'm looking forward to knowing roughly what I am looking at out of the window as I've got to know the many river inlets etc etc of the US east coast but never been able to place a lot of them.

Is it cheaper to go from a remote stand or something? That happened to us going from MAN last year, with the wet lease atlanta plane - I thought that they were driving us to FL by the time we reached the plane!! Not so good when you are paying for 1st class either, like the boss probably is :D

Just arrived at the 7 bed so only checking in quickly before we out to tea as we are really hungry.

We asked at the gate about the remote stand and apparently they have to do it twice a week due to stand shortages :(

28-05-2005, 01:51
That was a good fight time over John, how was the flight??

floridadreamvilla.co.uk
28-05-2005, 04:00
Not bad at all thanks Lucy. 8 hours, 10 minutes in total which was good. We got nice direct routing to finals into MCO which saved a bit of time too [msnsmile]
