Is it possible to buy just the sims. I have some friends who are going over in a few weeks and there are three families and they want to keep in touch. Can they just buy 3 new simms, is it economical to do so and where can they purchase them from ??

Cheers

I don't think its the sims that matter, it is the fact you need a Tri-band phone but I could be wrong.

There used to be a chap with a stall in Osceola Square Mall who sold these but I'm sorry, I don't know if he's still there.

You do need a particular sort of phone (not necessarily a triband) to use them though. I think he said a channel 9 phone?

Sims are available, I was offered one in New York. If you have a triband phone and it's not locked to your current UK network then theory says you shouldn't have a problem.

I just use texting, a little more expensive than at home but I find it's the ideal solution. Set up your phone to divert all calls but you will still receive texts as long as you have a triband phone and you have setup roaming with your UK network.

I purchased one 4 months ago from the T-Mobile cart by the food court in the Florida mall.

All you need is a phone that will work in the U.S. which if you purchased in the UK means it will need to be Tri-Band and unlocked so that you can put the new sim in.

They were offering about 100 pay-as-you-go minutes for around $50 all in, but check what offers are on.

Most of the new nokias and other camera phones will work in the USA, im on orange payg and that worked(i have a nokia6230), but they charge you about £1.30 per min to make a call and 75p the receive a call, text maessages were 45p.
if you will only be making a few calls i dont think it would be worth buying anything new, but if you will be using them almost every day then it will be cheaper to buy a new sim / phone
