We have just been to Florida then South Africa both flights with Virgin. We logged onto to their website within 24 hrs of departing and checked ourselves in on their site. It was great, when we got to the airport we went to a 'Check in Baggage' desk instead of standing in the long queue with everyone else and just handed in our baggage. We chose our seats on their online seat plan map too.
Thoroughly recommend doing this before your flight. You only have to arrive at the airport one hour before departing which means a lot less hanging around before you fly. You can also do it on your return journey.
Great service by Virgin but I would assume other airlines are doing the same.

Hi christina
were you able to do the on-line check in to south africa:)
You can do this with BA also now - saves a lot of hanging around at the airport.[clap]
Unfortunately BA only offer online check-in for adults - if you have children in your party you can't use the facility.
We did the on line check in from UK to FL for our last trip in Jan with BA it was so easy.
We selected our seats and our meal from the menu I had the fish it was really very very nice.
We had a relaxing dive to the airport missing the early morning traffic rush.
When we got to the airport just 1 hour before departure all we had to do was hand over our bags and an hour later we were of to Florida.
And our return check in was so smooth with no hanging around.
I would recommend it.

If you have young infants and you have requested the bassinet positions then you can't check in on line!!! Unfortunately this is us!!! Great to hear in normal circumstances the service is working well!
Can the DIY check in be done if flying to Orlando from Manchester do you know??
To add to my previous post, you can according to the virgin website do on-line check-in with infants, but you will not see the seat assignment to check seats if you have asked for a bassinet position, therefore you will not know if you have been successful with the request until you arrive at the airport! Hope this helps.....

I'm not sure - to be honest coming back we always use the Downtown Disney checkin. If you time it right then there are no queues there so no problem or need to do online checkin.

Apparantly you can.
Although as John & Sarah, we generally use the Downtown Disney Check in.
Worth the $5 each they charge!

Yes, we use the online check-in too from Gatwick to Orlando and find it works really well. Has anyone used it getting back from Orlando[msncry]? If not what is the best time to go to Downtown Disney to check-in?

Karen
We've used it a couple of times for our return trips now since they started last year. It's great being able to sit in the villa in your pjs and checkin rather than be in a queue.
Dowtown is open from around 8.30 to 1pm and is good if you want to lose the luggage and go to a park or something for the last day.

I used the DIY check in from Manchester to orlando and then Down Town Disney check in for the return, this was with Virgin and a brillent service. Made things so much easier so 10 out of 10 from me!
we already have our virgin seats assigned and have been given the seat numbers out and back by the broker. can i use the baggage check now or do i still have to fully check in online first. also is it 2hrs max before flight time that you can use this facility?

You can check in online between 2 and 24hours before you fly.
Not sure what you mean about can you use the baggage check now. It is not compulsory to check in online you can turn up at the airport as usual (3 hours before departure) and check in there to receive your boarding cards and deposit luggage, if you have checked in online you only have to allow an hour before your flight and go to designated bag drop to pick up your boarding cards. If you are going from Gatwick you can also check in the night before at the airport with the Twilight checkin.

Hi Shenon
Yes, we did the same on line check in for south africa and on our return journey. The airport in Jo-burg was manic so we were really pleased not to have to stand in a long line to check in.
You just log onto www.virginatlantic.com and it tells you what to do, really easy.

if you use the on line facility, how soon can you drop your bags off? (Manchester to Orlando)
we fly Monday morning but as we dont live too far from the airport, can we drop our bags off on Sunday afternoon?
we are leaving our car in the airport off site parking so it saves us lugging our cases onto the bus from the car park.
