Does River Country still exist? On the official site it says Disney have 2 water parks but River Country is the one our group want to visit!

Just wondered, have Disney started to redevelop the area that River country used to fill? I never did make it there:(

An obvious shame to see it in a state like that :(

The reason for it closing was the fact that Bay lake and Seven Seas Lagoon which is where River Country got most of its water from got contaminated with Bacteria and this flowed into the RC system.

Oh[:O]How sad do those pics look? Thank-you for posting them! Lets hope Disney come up with some real blinder to add to their other great parks:) Hope they don't leave it too long, I hate the thought that anything like that is just left to rot.

Disney announced on 20/01/05 that RC will be permanantly closed. Shame we never got there but it sounded good.[msnsad]

We didn't get to go there either Liz, as we used to Go to Florida for the halloween break, RC always seemed to be closed for refurb when we were there, then when we swapped to Easter a few years ago it was closed completely!! I am surprised it has been so long though now, without them bulldozing and coming up with some new attraction park, I am sure Disney will give us something to look forward to in time[msnwink]

Our kids were a bit bored with RC after the thrills and spills of the other two (wonderful) waterparks. Also we managed to pick a rare cool day

We had that problem too Heather, a really chilly day when we went and our boys complained about the freezing cold water in the lake area. THey preferred the flumes and slides at the other parks.[msnsmile]

I've always opted to go to the other water parks and never managed River Country. Now that I can't go - I'm quite sad that I never tried it [msnsad]

I love river country. I had read that it closed after numbers had dwindled after 9/11 - but the water contamination sounds feasbible.

The pics are really sad - I remember 1st time we went when my daughter was 8 (she's now 16) and looking at the slide and thinking oh look at that small girl on that big slide - then realising it was my child - she loved it.

I would definitely go there if it was still open.
