I included a link to my avatar,which i know is working,but no avatar next to my name.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi,
Change the link you currently have in there to end .gif not .html
Namely http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/brit/FLAG.gif
That will do it
