Hi all,

We are looking forward to our first villa stay at Emerald Island in late Feb., at a lovely villa we found through this website. I have read on another discussion board that there will be major road construction beginning this week on 192 at the I-4 interchange. The website with official info is:
www.trans4mation.org/fdot/index/trans4mation.home

Do you all know anything about this? Does anyone have suggestions for how to deal with it? I don't know the area well enough to be sure, but it looks like we could be affected in our attempts to get from the villa to WDW, Universal, Sea World, etc.

"There are no planned closures of the 192 or the I4 apart from nighttime construction". This kind of negates too many problems I would think as the article relates to the ramps connecting the 192 to the I4 only.

You won't take the I4 from Emerald Island to Disney and I don't think it will affect your travel to Universal, Sea World, etc. As always in Florida, there's always another route anyway.

Have a great time in Florida!

when we went in Dec 04, we found the roads were all over the place with roadworks, but all they do is slow you down a bit, they did loads of it at night and only seem to close one lane at a time, we only had one or two days that cheesed us off with the traffic, but we think that may have been Road traffic accidents , we passed some that hadnt long happened! dont worry about it! the traffic moves at a much faster rate with roadworks there then it ever does here!

There is a major project called "West US192 Beautification Project" (or something close) going on for the past few years and involves gradual widening of roads and new connections in stages over the next few years. I once spoke to the project's co-ordinator, Hector Lizasuain, who said that the plans include widening of Sherberth Road and the long awaited opening-up of the link between the western end of Osceola Parkway and US192 near AK Lodge. In the coming months, there is likely to be work going on in the ususal routes from the US192/27 villas to WDW and I-4, but they plan to keep daytime traffic disruption to a minimum.

I wouldn't like to say that you are wrong but it would appear that the work is expected to last the best part of two years with total reconstruction of both routes at this point. There are planned diversions with some exit and entry restrictions. I don't see how anyone crossing this junction will not be affected.
I would normally do everything I could not to have to drive the 192, especially as a route to somewhere else.
The Beautification works have certainly been the cause of some serious chaos and it is a shame that both projects didn't happen at the same time, to get it all out of the way in one go.

We have just got back and because of the roadworks and exceptional traffic at Christmas we used several roads we don't normally have to, to avoid the congestion. I cannot answer the original query but can confirm that there are still road works on the 192 from Poinciana to past the Wallmart at Bass Road, but in all honesty that wasn't were the trafic was congested. There are roadworks south of the 192 on the I4 which grind everything to a halt so if travelling from the south e.g. Tampa, come off at the 27 / Champions Gate and work your way around....the I4 seemed blocked from there north, with queues on the slip roads. There are also roadworks on Old Lake Wilson road BUT we used it a lot as there was hardly any trafic on it. It was a great cut through for us because we were on the 27 at Calabay Parc...we used to go through Champions Gate and across to Old Lake Wilson which brought us out on the 192 at Formosa, so we missed the bulk of the traffic at a stands still from the 192/27 junction to Disney/192/I4 area, after you cleared Old Town the 192 eastwards was fine.

We also used Polynesian(blvd or Rd..not sure) and I-drive South, and Central Florida Parkway which were clear in comparison to other roads, to help us get north side of the 192.

All in all we got around quite easily, mainly because we have been before and have some barings, but I would advise anyone new to get a good map and not just rely on the touristy type booklets that have maps of a sort in them.

The 192 Eastwards was dug up just east of the 535 right into Kissimmee downtown last May and was always at a standstill between 4pm and 6pm going east.

I am staying at Emerald Island at the beginning of March and i was under the impression that beautification work west of the I4 and east of the i4 to the 535 was completed. There certainly did not appear to be any major problems west of the I4 in the summer.

To be honest it just depended what time you travelled on the 192 last summer as to whether the traffic was bad. The worst was as i stated above at evening rush hour when people were going home from work and from the parks.

We were staying at Winward Cay which is in between Medieval Times and Walmart, so had no choice but to sit and fume every night.

we were the same when steve took another wrong turn, then we would have to sit in the traffic, and they bought a few things from walmart near the medieval times, that was faulty (submarines) saddos! then taking them back, later that week we found out we could take them back to any walmart! doh!!
