View Full Version : Passports
We are going to orlando October 2005, flying home 27th October. My 3 daughters passports run out 6th feb 2006. When we booked the flights I asked if they have to have 6 months left on their passport and was told no only 90 days. The villa owners website said that everyone must have 6 months left on their passport. Which one is right.
Also my eldest daughter is 15 but will be 16 when we go. Her birthday is in August so do I wait until then if I have to get her a passport so she then has an adult 10 year one or will she be ok with a child one.[?]
The US Embassy says passports should be valid for 90 days from the date of entry on visa waiver http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_web/visa/niv/vwp.htm
Info from the UK Foreign Office:
You are advised to check the remaining validity of your passport as soon as you know that you are travelling to the US. Although the US and the UK have an agreement that allows people travelling from one country to the other to enter with a passport that only has six months validity or less, you should nevertheless try to renew your passport beforehand.
The US Government has stated that anyone travelling to the US under the Visa Waiver Programme with a passport issued on or after 26 October 2005, will have to have a biometric passport in order to travel visa free. Biometric passports will contain data about the holder’s face, and may also contain other unique personal information such as fingerprints and iris details. The UK is working on its programme to introduce biometric passports, but it will not be fully ready in time for the 26 October 2005 deadline. British Citizens who would normally travel under the VWP may therefore require a visa, which will include biometric data, to enter the US on or after 26 October 2005.

My daghter had to renew her passport one month before her 16th birthday and they would not let us get a 10 year adult one, which means she will be travelling on her childs 5 year passport till she is almost 21. (she's now 18) We've been 4 times since then to both Europe and US an no problem at all.

My brother in law got a 5 year passport when he was 11.
He was allowed to extend that passport for another 5 years when he was 16 without actually renewing it.
We had the same, what that is is it is a 10 year passport renewable free of charge after 5 years. It's basically to update the photo as kids facial features change so much.
