Can anyone recommend anywhere nice to eat Christmas Day. We are off to Florida on the 15th Dec for two weeks, not sure we want to eat in one of the Theme Parks, any other restaurants with a Christmassy atmosphere would be nice. Also we are staying at Holborn Loop, Manors North, it has been described as a basic 3 bed villa with pool etc, but not quite sure what to expect!!

Hi Hipples

Welcome to the forum!

Well, Christmas day lunch or dinner can be had at any one of the larger hotels like Gaylord Palms, Celebration Hotel, etc and also the lunch brunch at the Renaissance but you need to book NOW as they're really popular! Other than these types of places, you may find your choice a bit limited as there's not much open on Christmas day otherwise, apart from the theme parks. If you check out this section of the forum or have a search using the link at the top of each page, you should find some info on all of these options.

It sounds as if you've booked a villa via a travel agent or travel company. Er, I guess a basic 3 bed villa with a pool will be just that! I'm not sure what that will include but as a standard I guess a fully furnished home with a pool and no frills or extra in the way of facilities.

Whatever you decide to do about your Christmas meal, have a great time in Florida!

Hi

Have just got back home and had a great time over Christmas I not going to recommend the following place in case it get too popular and we can get in for the coming years.

Oh OK i`ll tell you it was Celebration Hotel, the food was outstanding an so much of it, the hotel is beautiful, very classy, the friendly staff, the size of those prawns!, the beef just melted, the choice of 10 puddings, uuuuuummmmmm.

All for $40! cant be beat.

Then sit out on the rocking chairs looking over the lake!

Only 10 puds Nigel? The Renaissance gives you a choice of about 50 as well as main dishes as diverse as quail and made to order omelettes, oh and not forgetting the sushi, crab legs, huge prawns, smoked salmon, etc, etc, etc! :)

We went to the Renaissance for Christmas Dinner this year and it was fab, we got there around 11.30am just intending to have a look around but were shown to our table so we just got on with it. The choice of food was amazing, just about anything you could eat. We were there until around 4.30pm just taking in the atmosphere and enjoying the food, the champagne was flowing but since I don't drink champagne Bob drank mine too and I drove home !! There were only the two of us and it would hav been better with a crowd but we had a great time and would certainly recommend it - only $40 per head. [msnsmile2]

Hi all,

We too chose to go to the Celebration Hotel for Christmas Buffet Lunch - good choice.

We arrived at 12.30 in the pouring rain to valet parking and a young man with an umbrella to escort us from the car to the hotel. We were shown to our table, complete with proper table cloths & napkins and were looked after to the highest standard by our 2 table waiters!! The Buffet was gorgeous, you could have had an omelette cooked however you chose, fresh fruit, huge prawns and seafood dishes or cold meats to start with. Then there was soup and crackers or bread. Then the biggest piece of beef I have ever seen was roasted and ready to be carved along with all the usual accompaniments. Cheese & crackers to follow, and of course the sweet table, this was the one and only time I have actually eaten a sweet in Florida but then it was a special occasion!! Louise was in her element because for her main Christmas Lunch she opted for – Chicken nuggets & chips! A guy playing Christmas tunes on Baby Grand Piano complimented the whole atmosphere, everything was just perfect and very relaxing and we finally completed our meal and left our table after two hours. I would thoroughly recommend the Celebration Hotel Buffet as an excellent place to eat and will be visiting there again on our next vacation.

Sshhhhhhhh, you're telling everyone the secret. We were also at the Celebration Hotel for Christmas brunch. We actually went quite late, about 3-30pm, by which time some people were complaining that there were fewer options for dessert. As we are not interested in dessert it didn't bother us, we thought it was excellent but it may be worth remembering that an earlier booking is advisable. I think I better book for next year now that the secrets out.

Just caught up with this post and wondered what you thought of your Christmas lunch as we went to the Celebrtation hotel and it was awful - no choice, poor quality food, bad service, ran out of cutlery, plates, dishes, desserts; desserts warmer than main course, children's chocolate melted to liquid, overcharged, ............. I could go on!!

The Renaissance was its usual brilliant self. :) Loads of choice and free champagne (Buck's fizz) and a wonderful dessert section.

Sorry you had a bad time at the Celebration Hotel though.

I am so sorry you didn't enjoy it Jane. We had a lovely lunch there in Christmas 2005 for $39 a head which we didn't think was too bad for Christmas day. The staff were lovely and the food good and plentiful. There was a pianist playing christmas songs, which we enjoyed. Having said that, we don't eat deserts and we did hear some people complaining about them as I mentioned in my previous. post.

Agree with Blott, the Renaissance was its usual superb standard!

Fabulous food - choice amazing - and excellent service. With as much champagne or bucks fizz that you could drink - and all for $39 per head!

The Renaissance is one of our favourites for a special meal any Sunday lunchtime - and also well worth going to for Thanksgiving.

As an aside on Christmas Day we decided to book a taxi (to take advantage of the champagne!) and to our suprise the fare was the same as any other day! Imagine that in the UK on Christmas Day - it would have been at least double!

We are planning to be in Orlande for Christmas this year and hope to book our lunch at the Renaissance, we've been there before for a Sunday Brunch and it was fantastic.[msnsmile2]

Remember to ring up and book - we booked really early in the year for last Christmas. Good job we did too as they soon filled up. Friends of our who tried to book a few weeks before were only able to get a really late eating time.

We went to the Renaissance and it was wonderful, so good infact that we now have reservation from easter. Here is a picture of our gang. The tall girl on the end is our exchange student from Germany. We did not even think about bringing our "dress up" clothes, but will next time.
