View Full Version : What should we do on our first day
Hi
We will be arriving in Orlando on a Friday at 1530 hours.
What should we do on our first day (Saturday). Is it best to have a quiet day or should we just get straight into it:D We are a group of 6, 30 somethings to 60 somethings!

I think you may be best getting in the supplies, from Walmart or Publix. Then you can always dine out somewhere or even eat in by your pool. I usually like to relax after the long flight over, with a few beers by the pool. Then you can plan your first full day. Remember it can be a very hectic holiday, so chill out when you can.
Have a nice holiday [msnsmile]
The first day we always spend getting our supplies - Wal Mart by the gate, then we relax by the pool, too tired to do anything else.

I always find that although you have spent ages travelling to get to Florida you're always up bright and early the next day. If you have somewhere on your iteniary that you have to get up early for I would advise visiting this place. Make sure though that it is not somewhere where you need a lot of hours as you will probably tire by mid afternnon.

First, be sure that you have sorted out your supplies on the day of arrival (Friday). I would suggest ordering the evening meal into the villa to save time and energy while you are settling in.
For the following day, the westward jet lag hits you by evening and so keep a 'start early - finish early' park for Saturday. Animal Kingdom is a good bet since Saturdays are non-EMH days there and should not be too crowded.

Get straight into it.
I love going to Seaworld on my first full day. I wouldn't waste a day just getting supplies in.
Never feel tired, can't wait to get going. Rest when the holiday is over.
After arriving at our home we go straight to the local publix or 24 hour walmart.

Have to confess, we get straight into our hols:D Really depends on what activities you have planned? As we mainly Theme Park and shop, we tend to go for Theme park, then lunch & swim time, then either more parks or a shop, dinner and generally more park!! We certainly do not sit round the pool ALL day on our first day, though we do tend to have an eary night[8D]
We would get supplies in on the day we arrive and then have an early night. On our first full day we always go to the Magic Kingdom in time for the opening ceremony. I can't imagine starting the holiday any other way.
A whole day to get supplies in and laze by the pool is a wasted day in my eyes!!!!! Maybe thats why we are so knackered when we get back!;)
The first day is the ONLY day we are up early so tend to hit a theme park that day.[msnsmile2]

Just read your post again. Sorry maybe I didn't make myself clear. My earlier post was referring to getting the supplies in on the day you arrive (ie the Friday). Then on your first day just hit those parks. Enjoy ... [sporty] but wear comfy shoes/trainers as you will be doing a lot of walking.
We usually arrive about 5pm (USA time) so usually call in at Publix for some essentials un-pack shower get a bite to eat and then try to sleep.
Always up at a ridiculous time the first morning so hit Denny`s for breckie, then start holiday big-time

We are normally up and about by 6am as we cant sleep. You normally see loads of English people in Walmart at that time especially if its a Sunday.
Sea World seems a good option as there not too much walking or rides etc to do. You can also do most of the shows in 5-6 hours.
A water park would also be a good option as well, that way the kids run some energy off and you get to relax.

Hi!
Since you are arriving in the evening, youre not likely to want to waste a thema park ticket.
Id get my shopping on way to villa.
Then Id head straight off to Downtown Disney or International Drive.
Im always so excited when I arrive and want "to be out there".Im lucky and never really seem to suffer from jetlag till I get back to the UK.
have a great holiday, whatever you decide to do,
lynn
I would chill as the rest of your holiday is going to be manic [msnembarrased]

1st day - Breakfast at Dennys on I Drive then onto Seaworld - too much to do too much to see to be sitting by the pool, save that until the end when you're shattered!

We have an admin day, unpack, go to the supermarket and generally chill out, usually have an earlish night to get rid of the jetlag[zzz][zzz]
Agree with above. We always get supplies in from Walmart of Publix and pick up the leaflets they always have at the supermarkets which give you all the information on attractions. Then you can look around your villa and community if it has facilities, and then after unpacking have a nice cup of tea (or glass of wine) and read all the leaflets you have picked up and plan where you want to go for the rest of your stay. After that you will be ready for bed and a nice sleep.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I think we will do as most of you suggest - arrive at the villa(early evening), then go out to Walmart to stock up on beer/wine and maybe some food[msnwink] Then the following day up bright and early and off to one of the parks. As I mentioned above our first day is a Saturday and according to Simon Veness's book the best day for Animal Kingdom. Alternatively we might go to Seaworld.
We have Seaworld included with Discovery Cove. Does anyone know - do I just take my confirmation letter from Discovery along to the ticket booth at Seaworld and they give us a ticket[?]
Sorry to ask so many questions and as the months go by I am sure there will be many more:D
Yes, just take your letter from Discovery Cove to Guest Relations at Seaworld and they will sort out your tickets for you.
