The Orlando Sentinal did a story today about a new British web site where families of British and Commonwealth soldiers can trace their WW1 redords through the National Archives. But they neglected to publish the web address!
Anybody have that address? My grandfather was a British POW in WW1.
Also my father was a British POW in WW2. That's a legacy that doesn't need to continue!
Thanks.

I would be interested to see this if anyone knows it, and also any link that can help trace my fathers records. He flew as part of a Lancaster crew during WW2, but died before I was interested enough to find out any history. Now I want to know, as he isn't here to ask......... [msnsad] Some of his older brothers fought in WW1, so I would like to try and trace their info too....

Many thanks in advance, and thanks for bringing this up Jeff &/or Amy!

If you are interested in reading some Diaries from WWI and WWII.

Please click on this site: http://www.aboutjonesfamily.com/index.htm

You will see a button on the top for WWI and WWII. The Diary is that of My grandfather who proudly served in WW1.
The excpets about WWII are taken from my Uncle Joe's letters to his Wife back home during WWII.
My cousin Joseph (they are his father's letters) created the site for my whole family.

He thought it great to give homage to our families long history of Military service.
He has been recognized by HBO in the special Band of Brothers for his Father's recollection of WWII.

The whole family site is interesting reading (if I do say so myself) but the War memories and our family History from Wales is also interesting. If you click- I am the daughter of James (who is baby number 9) Then I am child 3- Karen

Enjoy the reading and Joseph has put a lot of WWI info on those pages.

I've read the letters so far and had a quick glance at the other pages. It's very interesting and moving. You should be very proud.

I wish I had that much on my family, my mothers side came from Ireland and I don't know about my fathers family. There is no longer anyone around to ask unfortunately. I have tried unsuccessfully to trace the Irish side...one day I'll find something I hope.

There is also the commenwealth graves commision at :- http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx. My father had always assumed his eldest brother who died in ww2, was on a memorial in Portsmouth, but when he went down there many years ago he couldn't find his name listed and subsequently dropped this. I came across this site and found that his brother was listed but on the memorial at Chatham. I was so glad to be able to take him to see this site about 6 months before he passed away.
