How long does it take for the car hire company on this site to reply to an email? I sent one on 03/11/04 and still no reply.

Unusual - they have always been quick to acknowledge and then send voucher later. . Worth checking to see if request got through.

There is a phone number of the site - phone them on Monday though if it is not urgent as they try to keep office hours.

We respond very quickly. I have just checked the Inbox and we never received an email from you. Can you re-send it with an obvious subject line (blank subject lines etc get zapped by our spam filter).

I am looking to hire a car in Florida in the next few days. I must say that I was very pleased to discover what others on this site have already done - that the rental rates on this site are extremely good value. I can't find anything to match it for a weeks's rental.

What has puzzled me is that the rate for part weeks is not so competetive. I want 10 days and have found that I can easily beat the rate for this period with providers who can't match the full week rate. This is not, I stress, a criticism, it's just something that I don't understand.

The daily rates are usually the weejly rates / 5. 5 or 6 days in a week is the same price as a full week. This is imposed on suppliers by the car hire companies who all work in this way.

Speaking of car hire, my deal with TCD was £468.00, 14 days, full size (Taurus SE) LDW/SLI/UMP/Taxes through Dollar. Having now got the bit between my teeth on my pool problem, I'm interested to know if TCD turned me over on the car hire as well or is that a reasonable rate for late October-early November.

Hi John and Sarah,
Do you know if there are any companies at present or in the pipeline who do pick-ups from airport and hire car waiting at your villa(As I know that company I know of is ceasing come Xmas)?
Your prices are competitive,Ive just got to pluck up the courage to drive! Its the thing Ive not managed yet!

Hi John
Finally got round to printing off the car rental voucher that you e-mailed me and there is a line in it which says "Daily customer facility charge may be payable by client" This is new since I hired a car through you in March this year and I'm hoping you can tell me what this means. many thanks

See http://www.uscarhire.co.uk/CustomerFacilityCharges.aspx on our website. The charge is not payable for pickups at Orlando International, Sanford, Tampa or indeed most other locations.

The charge is levied in order to raise money for security improvements at certain US airport locations.

I've copied the details below as well:

As of 1st June 2004, the US Government has introduced a new mandatory customer facilty charge payable at certain car hire pickup locations. This is a per day charge and must be paid locally on collection of the car for each day of rental.

The charge only applies if you pickup your rental car from one of the locations mentioned below. It does not depend on which location you return the car to so, for example, if you picked the car up at Miami International Airport and returned it to Orlando International Airport, a charge would be payable for each day of the rental, whereas it you picked the car up from Orlando International Airport and returned it to Miami International Airport no charge would be payable.

The charge per day is shown below. If you opt for a pickup location that is not shown below, the Customer Facility Charge has already been built into the price you pay and you will not be asked to pay it again on arrival.

Dollar Rent A Car
Ft Lauderdale Airport $2.75 per day
Ft Myers Airport $1.00 per day
Miami (Docks) $3.25 per day
Miami Airport $3.25 per day
Naples Airport $2.50 per day
Pensacola - International Airport $5.00 per day
Reno - In Terminal (RNO) $3.00 per day
Newark International Airport, NJ $2.00 per day
Phoenix Airport - In Terminal (PHX) $4.50 per day

Alamo
Miami - International Airport $3.25 per day

Hi John

many thanks for this and the prompt reply!! Now you have told me what it is I remember this has been discussed on the forums before. As we collect the car from Orlando International this is not payable. The rates you are offering and the service must be the best around (could be why people keep comming back to you for car hire!!!)

I have now decided to book car from this site but just wondered whether it is worth going for the Gold Option which includes a tank of gas, or take the fully inclusive, and if I remember rightly return the car to dollar with a full tank of gas.

Smart move Bernie - you can't do better with car rental.

If you have the Gold option, you can return the car with any amount of petrol/gas as you've already paid for the tankful in with the rental price. Gold also includes more than two drivers.

With the all inclusive option, you're charged for a tank on arrival and you're meant to return the car with the tank empty. Includes two drivers.

With the fully inclusive option the car hire companies now insist you pay for a tank of gas (at thier prices) on arrival. With the Gold option the tank of gas is included in the rental. On either option you can return the car empty.

I'm sorry but can you please clarify that for me?

John and Sarah

I'm confused - are you saying that the "fully inclusive" option with "NO hidden extras" (quote from the website link above) does not include the cost of a tank of petrol at the rental company's price which must be paid on arrival before the car can be driven away?

floridadreamvilla.co.uk
13-11-2004, 18:05
That's right. It's not hidden as we clearly say that the tank of gas has to be paid for on arrival all over the site, including at the quotation stage. We also clearly explain this to anyone who asks, either by email or by telephone as we do what we say: provide car hire with no hidden extras [msnsmile2]

Ahh - I've just spotted what the problem was. In my previous post I meant to say it's the Gold option that includes a tabk of gas in the price you pay.

That will teach me to post in a hurry as we are about to go out to take the children to music lessons and ballet [msnsad]

After 14 years of going to the US I drove for the first time this year Lynn. I went with my sister and I was the only driver. I did interstate,I did busy, I did roadworks, I did dark, I did getting lost plus any combination of the above. It was no problem and I certainly won't worry about it in the future......go on give it a go, you will be surprised.[msnsmile2]<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Originally posted by minnie29uk

We too have been going to Florida since 89 and this was the first time we had driven, we hired a 4x4 as with both drive similar here, I did drive round the carpark a couple of times and was very nervous for the first day, after that my hubby didn't get a look in!! We too went all over and loved it. Will be doing it again in 2005[msncool]
