Here's a little secret.
USAF Lakenheath has an aero club. Upper Heyford had one also. They have a fleet of Pipers and Cessnas. All N registered. Also had a Beagle Pup. That's a strange aeroplane! They have to employ UK instructors with US CFIs due to British employment laws. So, if you have a US CFI and want to get hours flying in Europe, try to get in touch with them. You'd be teaching GIs to get their US certs in the UK!
I worked at Lakenheath in 1990 but we were shut down because of the Gulf War. I hear they are still operating.
The flying was a blast. We went to Europe and Ireland. And of course all over the UK. In aircraft owned by the USAF!
