The days in Orlando are fairly pleasant but nights can get a bit chilly. Remember that the daylight hours are shorter in January. You'll need windcheaters or light jackets if going out for the evening. Also, you will most certainly need pool heating in the villa.

Hi Limara, I agree that the weather will be pleasant particularly during the day. It depends what you are looking for. It's the right weather for seeing the theme parks in my opinion, because you won't be suffering the heat of the summer. Also the parks should be quiet at that time.

thanks for the replies folks, we normally visit in november, we are having to delay this year as my sons just lost his job and we are awaiting an appeal hearing, the soonest we could book for would be January, but i remember some one that lives in florida saying " Weather in January is about as bad as it gets!" I just wondered how bad that would be.
I dont want it too bad to be able to use the pool ( we normally have pool heating in November as well) or to have to go out with jackets in the day evenings im not too bothered about.

what is the normal day time temperature for the end of January? and are the water parks ( mainly wet n wild ) open at that time?

Its colder for the people who live there full time.... then for us Brits....or us hardy folk from the Northern United States....I take a light jacket everywhere.....or a jumper......We had one cool day last Jan...I think it was 40 degrees...and for a few days I used the heating for a few mins in the mornings ...

My honest view is, we did it once and wouldn't go again at that time! It was freezing[msneek]Sun was out, but I had to buy a pair of Jeans and a sweatshirt, and was still cold!! No water parks, no swimming, but if you want to do parks, shop and other tourist attractions, Kennedy etc it was fine! That was 10 years ago BTW.

I was over in January this year and we're back for another week this coming January. I found the weather to be warm during the day, needed a jumper at night. Swam in the pool without pool heat and it was 5 days before I realised the pilot light on the boiler had gone out and we had no heating in the house either. The locals were out in their fur coats. Wimps;)
Once the heating was on in the pool it really was very comfortable to swim - and if you have fair skin you still have to be cereful of the sun.

Thanks Drew,

I was just about to panic, we normaly go out March/April and June, but due to exams we are going 31 Jan-18th Feb. Kids are complaining, but this is better than nothing. It is the first time that the children have seen our new villa on Glenbrook. We went in June to add the gamesroom etc.

Hi,

I went out at the beginning of Jan this year and like people have said, the weather is pleasant! Day temperatures were in the Low 70's. We managed to do blizzard beach one day and it was fine, just started getting a bit chilly late afternoon. Evening are chilly though, the temps were low to mid 50's.

Have fun

The experts are predicting that we are going to have a cool winter. After three direct hits this summer anything's possible!

As with the UK the temperatures in Florida can vary from area to area. We wore shorts in January/February in the Rotonda area but had to put on jeans and sweaters up in St. Augustine.

We find the weather in January fine, I never wear jeans, but may resort to a sweatshirt. Mrs MTP would wear long light trousers. Would disagree about not being able to do the waterparks, we went last year and two years before that. In BB I even got a very light touch of sunburn, I think that the reflective nature of the water is enhanced by the white surfaces.

I think it can be patchy though and it is fun to see the locals dressed in full winter woolies!

We've always found the weather in January to be really great - hardly any rain, blue skies, warm during the day but perhaps a bit chilly at night and in the early morning with a very, very occasional and much talked about frost.

In fact, much like the best of a British summer but without the rain!

We visited last January and i thought the weather was great, beautiful clear days and crisp evenings. My husband likes it really hot though so wasn't as impressed

I've read the postings on this topic with great interest as we're visiting in January. I can't bear too much heat - 70 degrees is probably my upper limit. When people say it will be cool on an evening, do they mean that we will literally be shivering, or will it still be pleasant sitting outside with sweatshirts or light jackets on?

Fletch,
Depends on what temp. makes you shiver. We have been in Florida at Christmas for the past 8 years...and usually it is fine sitting outside with a sweatshirt.

Limera, I wouldn't be over concerned. Like most things it is down to personal expectation! We were told it was an unusual cold snap too, and don't forget it was 10 years ago! On the previous trip we had been in June, so I was expecting similar weather in Jan, which was my fault, not the weather's!! There was the advantage of no rain at all and the most beautiful sunny days and blue skies! The parks were very quiet as were other tourist attractions :)If memory serves, MGM even had a special and impromtu opening 1 evening that they called a 'Scream Out' or something:DYou could go on the TT as many times as you wanted, there was no queue, and they had a disco playing with all the characters coming out to join the kids, it was a real treat for our daughter, who was then only 2 years old!! I am sure you will have a great trip[msnsmile]

We have visited Orlando for the last 3 years at New Year so have been there during the first week of January. Weather has been very different for each visit.
The first year was really cold even during the day. People in Magic Kingdom were buying socks to use as gloves (they had sold out of gloves) and my husband who normally is never cold, even when I think it is, had to buy a sweatshirt!! When we left the park we had to s[bad language filtered out]e frost/ice off the car windows. It really stayed like this all week so we had thick clothes on all the time. We were told though that this was freak weather.
The second time we visited it was cool some days but quite warm during others. We did manage to visit a waterpark in 2003 but only the Brits were there so it was very quiet and I would say a good time to go because there were no queues.
January 2004 was very different - hot every day and warm in the evenings. Some evenings we didn't even need cardys. We sat by the pool most days, but I must admit I didn't venture in.
One day we went to Islands of Aventure and it was so hot they even had the water sprays going.
I would suggest that you take a variety of clothing because we were told the temperature can really drop at night so even if it is hot in the day there is a good chance that it will be really cool at night.

Hi Limara.
It will be perfect, we are off on the 9th January for two weeks. We usually go in March, but ouselves and a few friends who also own villas decided to all go out together and January was the best time. Just think whatever the weather is like it will probably be better than in the UK.
Cheers

As a guide for you, a group of us were made redundant on 31/01/01 and had to go to a tribunal to get our redundancy pay and holiday pay from the government funds as the company we worked for was technically insolvent and had a book debt receiver appointed (not a proper receivership).

Our hearing ( which was a formality as the companies directors (a husband and wife team) did not contest it as they stood to lose their home to the bank in any case) took place on the 4th July 2001.

We finally got our money in August 2001.

Obviously, it took a bit of time because there were 15 of us and we all had to fill in seperate tribunal application forms but had 1 hearing for us all. Should be quicker with 1 person involved, but the plaintiff/company has a certain time period to respond and state there case before the hearing takes place.
