Hi
We are taking my(very young at heart)73 year old mum to Kissimmee for Christmas and New Year. We would welcome any suggestions anyone may have, especially for things to do on Christmas Day and New Years Eve for the less mobile. We are also considering renting an electric wheelchair as we will get disabled assistance at the Airports as it may be easier to rent than bring her chair from the UK, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Jude
Personally, I'd take her UK wheelchair with you if you possibly can as she'll be used to it and you will have it with you all the time. Just tell the airline now that you have a wheelchair user with your party and they will make all the arrangements for it.
There are lots and lots of things to do all over the place that are suitable for wheelchair users and the US is much more wheelchair user friendly than the UK. There are very few places to visit or things to do that your Mum won't be able to do. My 83 year old joins in most things (although not coasters!) and loves things like Boggy Creek Airboat rides, shopping, theme parks, eating out... well, most stuff actually!

Hi Blott,
On a slight change of subject, Who do you book the travel insurance for your 83 year old? And how much do you pay for it?
Harry
Eagle Star Direct and it was £110 for an annual worldwide policy. She has some medical problems so we had to declare them to their medical branch but they covered them with no extra premium.

My mother goes where we go.......she just does most of it sitting in her wheelchair.....you just have to watch that its not to cold if you're going to a park.....we spent Christmas day in Islands of Adventure...not too crowed....she never went on any rides......but she still liked it......

My mum (76) and still fairly mobile-isn't too keen on the rides-but enjoys Sea World and Busch Gardens. You can hire scooters there for about $30-we haven't quite reached that stage yet-just lots of sitting down.
You might want to consider going to see La Nouba -Cirque du Soleil at Downtown Disney as a Christmas Treat-my mum saw it again for the second time and still thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's a bit pricey at $62 and $90 a seat-but well worth it.
As you are htere for Xmas -it's also well worth taking a trip up to Blue Springs-north on the I4 to Orange City. The manatees come up from the St John River to winter in the springs. There's not too much walking for her-and on the day we went there were over 60 manatee in the springs. The water is fairly shallow-so you get a good view of them-and you have to be quick-often they are gone by early Feb!
