I am sure there is going to be an obvious answer to this and I will feel really silly [msnembarrased]

I've driven hire cars in Florida for the last 14 years and had, or perhaps just noticed for the first time this trip that the car had two D (drive) gears.
Used them both and didn't notice any obvious differences.

Can anyone please tell me what they are both for???

They used to have a Drive 1 and Drive 2 on automatic gearboxes. Drive 1 is for normal driving and Drive 2 is normally for lower gears for things like really steep hills, etc (not many of those in Florida!).

:)
Thanks Blott - I knew there would be an obvious answer.

But if they both show as D - how do you know which is which [?]

Give up! :D I think the one nearest to Park and Neutral will be the ordinary Drive and the one further away will be the 'other' one.

Hey, I've got it! Julie, your question was not daft at all! Amazing how we all miss something so simple! The second 'D' is for the other driver!!!! [laugh][laugh][laugh]

One of the Ds should be in a circle. That circle is an O. O and D stand for OverDrive. 99% of your driving will be using the overdrive. D is just used for towing, or hill climbing!

Hope this helps.
