View Full Version : Jai Alai
Has anybody been to a jai alai game? I remember going to one in 1979 in Tijuana - my vague recollections were that it was very fast and furious.
We're keen to try out typical American experiences as well as the tourist attractions, so we've put this on our list along with a rodeo (as spectators, naturally[laugh]) and maybe a baseball or American football game. Does anybody know whether any or all of these will be available in January?
Having seen all there is to do in Orlando and Kissimmee, I bet we don't do even half of what we're planning!

I thought Jai Alai went out with the 70s! Crazy game, with players using basket like contraptions to play a game resembling Squash?
Here you go Fletch found this for you

Still no sign of your dancing girl:(
Thanks for the replies. I gather you can place bets on the teams. Might give it a go, but I think there'll be plenty else to do on a night!!
Cruella - you've got me worried. I can see my avatar.
Anybody else who reads this message - can you see the dancing girl?

I've been a few times.
Great night out - real local flavour experience rather than a controlled touristy one. Earlier this year, it was $1 entry and cheap eats once you're in.
Never crowded, you can move from seat to seat and get really close to the action.
I don't gamble, but not betting didn't spoil the enjoyment for me.

Still can't see her Linda, glad it is not just me, thought I was going mad!!
I went to a Jai Alai session in Orlando somewhere with some local friends!! We had a lovely day. Watched the Jai Alai for a while, got the hang of it, and then started placing a few bets - did OK too. Had a very late lunch in the bar/restaurant and the food was very good. Whilst sitting in there we placed bets on the various horse races going on around the USA using simulcast. I had a great time checking out the form etc. (like I know what I'm doing - NOT, but I was with a couple of experts!!!). The staff were quite happy for us to sit there for the rest of the afternoon playing the geegees and having a drink or two.:D:D
This was on a weekday, so the place wasn't too busy. All in all it was a fun day and didn't end up costing me very much at all. Not really a place to take young kids though. They would get bored really quickly.

Fletch, Carla, I just found this info by accident. I don't know if you'd be interested:
ORLANDO-SEMINOLE JAI-ALAI, 6405, S US17/92, Fern Park. Ph 407 331 9191. About 20 minutes north of Orlando off Exit 48 of Interstate-4.
Thanks Nostromo - will look it up
