View Full Version : Virgin Flying Club Air Miles?
Can anyone please explain how the VA Flying Club Air Miles work?I have just had a quote from them and with it i would get 9500 air miles. What exactly does this equate to ....i have read the info on their site, but i still dont really understand.[:I]

When you have enough air miles you will be able to get a free flight. or upgrade to a higher class. For example for 20,000 air miles you can upgrade an economy seat to a premium economy seat. If you fly with a certain airline regularly it is worth having their card to collect the air miles.[msnsmile2]
Or you can do Miles + Money.
This tends to save 40% on fares so the lady told me when I rang.
You can get two return economy flights for £511 including all tax etc + 4000 virgin air miles.

To claim a free Orlando flight with Virgin you need 40,000 miles which we are doing this time after using the 20,000 points given for a 24 hour delay last year together with points earned to date. The card is well worth using if you fly regularly and points only expire if you you do not fly with them for more than 3 years.

as an aside here's a related topic I mentioned on a previous thread which you may find interesting.
We recently ordered a new car from Virgin Cars. £2500-00 cheaper than the dealer + by using our Virgin credit card we got 70,000 air miles and a free companion flight ticket.
As Ray and Sarah said, well worth getting the credit card as the miles can mount up especially when my wife visits the Millenium Mall in Orlando[msnscared]

If you don't fly that regularly, you can still use miles on european routes with BMI.
I think the lowest is 12500 for an Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris or UK domestic, and then 18000 will get you further afield IE Italy, Spain.
Of course you earn miles on more than just flights. Virgin Wines, Virgin Credit Card, BMI Flights along with selected other airlines, hotels, car rental.
They all add up. I think at the moment I'm on 312000 and have a gold card[clap][clap] Lots of free flights in the coming years for me:D:D

The best deal with virgin is to buy a 'companion ticket'. For 20 000 miles you can buy a ticket for a friend so long as you are travelling too and they just pay the taxes. You cant buy the cheapest economy ticket but we have just booked for next August and paid £750 for most of the tickets, £850 for Paul's and then Peter going as his 'companion' for 20000 miles plus £54 taxes so saved ourselves £600!:D:D
For the following August we will have built up enough miles for 2 of us to take companions.

A friend has just used 30,000 points to get a premium economy ticket to Orlando next May; worked out £512 each which they were more than pleased with having just paid £500 for an economy ticket in September.

We have just done the same. Using 30,000 miles we are both flying in Premium Economy for £1244, my ticket was £74.20. We are flying 25th July.
One thing I was not aware of though was that only certain seats (i.e. price) can be upgraded using airmiles.

Hi Paul,
I believe its the "flexible" tickets i.e. more expensive ones.
Still works out as a good deal though especially as you are flying during the peak time.
We have used miles plus money before and got Premium Econmy for £450-00 plus 7500 miles but this was last November out of season.
Got upgraded to First class which was a big bonus[msnsmile2]

One thing to bear in mind is that you don't earn additional mileage points on flights where you have used existing points to pay for tickets.

They have affiliates as well.
Delta Air Miles can also be used with Virgin so I am told!!
Not an easy subject!!
After reading ealier about earning extra miles with the Virgin crdit card, I enquired about mine to be told it had to be a Virgin Atlantic one, so I have changed them over! I was asked which card I wanted one had a fee of £80 which earned 2 miles for every £ spent and the other has no fee and earns 1 mile per 3 spent. Just thought I would mention this.:D

We paid £650 for fly drives to the US in August this year. We then upgraded to premium using our air miles, 20000 each. When we got to the airport we found we had been upgraded to first class, which was fantastic, our first ever upgrade. We also then got the air miles for the journey and tier points which has resulted in us all being made silver status.[msnsmile2]

If you have just joined FC you will not receive your card until you have taken your first qualifying flight.
You should have received your membership number when you signed-up. All you need to do now is give Virgin Atlantic a call and get them to add you number to your booking.
Or, as Sarah has mentioned above, just have them put the number on to your booking when you check-in.

Each mmber of the party would need their own card Karen, you can't collect points for other members, I think they allow you to link to children who are not old enough to get points of their own though. They can have a card of their own when they reach 12.[msnsmile2]
you can of course recommend them for flying club and get 3000miles when they have taken a qualifying flight:)

Trouble is Tony they have upped the "qualifying flight" now so the flight has to be in something like M class and most of the cheaper flights are in Q so don't qualify.
I found this out recently.
I introduced my Mum in November expecting a nice 3000 bonus.
When it didn't arrive I contacted them and this was the case..not a high enough class.

You will qualify for flying points as I always get the cheap flights and I've racked up points.
It's the recommending a friend that you won't get points for if they fly at a low qualifying class.
