Hi, yes Festival of the Lion King is still running, you need to check your programme when you go in to make sure of the times of the shows. Arrive approx 30 mins before the start, this is in the not so busy times, as this show gets pretty packed.
Thanks Val & Leslie
You've just made me very happy

Our neighbours where our villa is are dancers in the show so clap very loud as they are very very good hee hee
I think that there would be total uproar and anarchy if Animal Kingdom tried to drop this show!! It's wonderful. We all love it and make a point of hopping across to AK just for the show.

I agree that AK's Lion King show is very good, but we were at a psychological disadvantage when we went there. Just 4 days before we flew to Orlando, we went to the incomparable Lion King play at the West End; then when we arrived in Orlando, AK was the first park on our list and so we ended up seeing its Lion King show less than a week after the London one. It was very difficult not to compare the two, although it was unfair to do so between a very well done 40 minute AK show and a full blown 3-hour extravaganza at West End.
I admit to the same with Beauty and the Beast, although we did see the MGM version before we saw the Broadway show (well Bristol version when on tour).
Thought it was great at MGM, then we saw the full blown show which was an amazing production.
The one at MGM is still great but now can't help but compare it.
To be fair the park version have to be cut-down versions for logistical reasons and to keep the kids attention.
I think the Lion King is great at AK so maybe I'll get around to watching the full version soon.
I still regret not getting tickets to the Mary Poppins premiere in Bristol that is currently running, although £40 a head with no concessions is a little steep for the four of us.

They have recently enclosed the theatre so that it is now fully air conditioned, so that should make it much more comfortable.
Many's the time we have sat in there with the rain thundering down in torrential sheets outside - and splashing in through the open sides.
We have not yet been since the theatre has been improved, but despite having recently seen the Lion King in London it will be one of our first 'must do's' next time we visit AK. It doesn't matter how many times I see it I still get goose bumps when I hear the music, and see the wonderful costumes.

Steve, your picture of Lion King show is brilliant. Are you a pro or something? Please let me know the camera used and your settings at the time. Evidently, you used a large aperture without flash.
Interesting comparison between the Lion King and Beauty and Beast park and theatreproduction shows as wasn't the theatre version of BatB inspired from the park version, but LK the other way round? Have to agree about the photo Steve, it is very well taken in difficult circumstances (so how did you do it?).

I feel really jealous reading this thread guys as the day we went to AK this September the show was closed. I do not know why and how long for. I just know there was a big sandwich board at the entrance to the park saying that the FOTLK show was closed.
Ah well, always next year. ;)

Mack,
You have to go back to see this show, it is excellent. Now with Kraken and this you are truly obliged to go back!
Believe it or not Nostromo and MTP it was taken with my little Canon digital. I had the flash off and bumped the ISO sensitivity up as high as it would go. The thing I find difficult with the little digital is that its autofocus is really too slow for a fast moving show so I had it pre-focused on the figure in the centre of the frame. I let the camera sort out the exposure, which was as wide an aperture as the lens could manage but still not quite wide enough as I was still getting the camera shake warning. I took dozens of photos during the show; this is the best one, the rest go steadily downhill from here.
I'm very flattered by your question about being a pro. Alas not. I will admit to being quite a keen amateur. I'm going to be back out at the end of the year and if my plan comes good I will have a couple of days snapping with my new Nikon. I'll post some results to a photo thread to see what you think.

Thanks for the info Steve. I have heard from others that the Aperture Priority mode works very well with upmarket digicams, with or without flash. I've got a year old Minolta Dimage A1 which is very good and I'll try some night photography with AP mode soon.
