View Full Version : gameboy games
Were going out on 2nd Dec and would like your advise,
our 4 boys are taking there gameboys with them for the journey, they are all after new games and wondered if anyone knew if we can get them duty free either Glasgow or Gatwick, i know the price is better in Florida but they have been saving birthday money to get them before we go,
I'll probably get stung by them over there for more but hey there worth it [angel][angel][angel][}:)][thats the wee one]

we saw them there at gatwick airport when we went in 02 ( i know things may have changed) we had just bought my youngest the game boy that was popular then and when we came back the game boy advance was out and now we cant get games for the earlier one, but the games were cheaper at gatwick

I just got hold of a few games quite cheaply on ebay, keeping them in reserve for when the novelty factor of a 9 hour flight wears a bit thin!
cheers

Game boys are great for the flight, particularly with a new game.
Have a great time, you have chosen a great time to go;all the Christmas extras and no crowds.Usually the best weather for us Brits as well.
We cannot go at that time for business reasons, but otherwise it would be my first choice.

Yes, there is one at Gatwick and they had Game Boys (and games presumably) when we were there in August.

They do sell them at Gatwick but you would do better to buy preowned ones from somewhere like Game to keep them amused on the flight and then buy the latest games in Florida. This is what we do for our son, who has his eye on the new game boy that has come out this month in the US.[msnsmile2]

i just had a nose in ebay and found many many new games all reasonably priced have put them on my watch list, will be getting a few of them for the flights
so thanx for that Kiddie001...;)
Be careful if you have the Gameboy SP with built in battery.
The UK charger does not work in the US so once it runs out that's it until you return to the UK.
You could invest in a US charger when you are over there to solve this problem.
If it's the older Gameboy or Gameboy Advance Mark 1 then they take normal AA batteries.

I found the same thing Brizzle with my kids game boy advances, the charger just doesnt charge them when using a regular plug adaptor.:(

I dont know if this is at all relevent, but a US charger works fine in the UK- with an adaptor. Games are cheaper in the US too, when we went in Oct 04.[8D]
Brizzle thanks for that, just remembered last November hubby took an Mp3 player and it would'nt charge, he's done a bit of research and we should be able to pick a universal adaptor in Walmart, that should cover the gameboys and there players,
thanks again it's surprising what you forget

Gatwick had the new ones in when we went over in Nov and again in July.
They are much cheaper in the US with out a doubt.

Just one thing, Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney do accessory packs for the SP, Think they are around $10
You get a car charger and a usb Charger which obviously can be used with a PC/Laptop and also they should work with the PS2
You can also get leather gloves that fit the SP to stop all the wear and tear!!
Excellant ideas!!

We have all got Gameboys in our house!
And 2 of them were from Florida!
We don't seem to have problems with any of the games playing on any of the consoles!!
They don't have a REGION to them!! Although the label does state where they are from!!

We bought a few games last year, they we just the same as here, apart from the price ofcourse.
The games retail at around £30 for the letest, what is the price in Orlando?

The games are usually the same amount of dollars as we get charged pounds, ie. a £30 game would cost $30 in the US.[msnsmile2]

cARRIE
It's called the Nintendo DS (I assume the DS stands for Double Screen since it has two screens, one being a touch screen).
It's due out in the US next month, November 2004.

Must have been delayed then as when our son was looking on the internet they were quoting October, he'll be a bit disappointed as he really wanted to get one.[msnsad]
I spoke to EB games in orlando they have a date of 30th November for the DS to be in the shops, i am sory too as my son wanted one, you can they say pre order, i wonder if it would work out cheaper to order and pay in florida and have it shipped out, not sure of the proposed uk price eb reckon between 149 $ and 189$.
Nintendo site have the release date as 21st November and a price of $149 so £149 sounds about right for the UK (swap the $ for a £ sign).
Good thing is that it looks like the power socket on the DS is the same as on the SP so if you have an SP already the charger will charge a US version.
If you don't you can just buy a spare power charger from a games shop in the UK.
