We are going on the 23rd Oct too Carrie, haven't bought any dollars yet, will probably do it at the last minute and buy a few. Will mainly use the credit card as you tend to get a better exchange rate over all.[msnsmile2]
hi carrie, at 1.80 they'll cost you £166 and at 1.72 the cost is £174. you're welcome to come , but you'll have to take care of my kids[msnwink]
benfilo

Celebration Hotel, usually stay in a villa but there are only 2 of us, we booked late and it's half term week.
Hey Liz, we are going from Gatwick on Virgin on 22nd October - I will have to make an OV sign or sticker so we can be spotted (and avoided probably:D)

I am thinking of going over for the mid-term break week too, have not booked the flights yet though, as I live in Plymouth it is easier to fly from Cardiff, so I am waiting for the price to drop a bit, if not will go from Heathrow.

I am travelling with my sister so if you see 2 forty plus women, one very slim ([}:)][}:)]her) and one plump with big boobs ([:o)][:o)]} thats us. We will both have very large suitcases that don't look very heavy [msnwink] I wonder why!
Have a great trip.[msncool]
To be honest have not followed the rate for a long time, normally it goes up and down with the way the US economy is.
Obviously it must be getting better as recently it is going down. (normally it will go up if they have bad reports) Think if you get1.72 at the mo you are doing OK.

Is it a good idea to take some sterling with us and change it in Florida - will we get a better rate over there?

You usually find it is a better rate if you use you bank card or visa!
You have to go to the bank to change money in the US!
We were quoted 1.84 at the beginning of last week by exchange Co & now its down to 1.76 which has cost us £1500!

I bought mine just before Sept 28 and got 1.73 for £6,000 worth-which was a bit mean I think

Like Ray&Sarah we tend to put everything on a credit card when we get there, it is what we have done for bout 7 years now[^]
The exchange rate has really changed over the last few months, elections in the US I assume?

We bought our villa in May 2004 and the exchange rate was doing the same then. When we had to send the money off it had cost us about the same amount and we got an exchange rate of $1.78 but it had been as high as $1.85 a few weeks earlier. Makes you sick when this happens. People were saying back in March/April that the exchange rate will fall after the elections. Not sure how much it will fall. It was round the $1.40 mark for many years, before the rises last year.
Tell me about it [V] when I bought our villa we got 1.38 [msncry][msncry]. Just think what we would have saved at todays rates.

We got 1.57 when we bought in March 2003[msncry] but look how the price of villas has risen since then[msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]
We closed in May 2004 and everytime there was a jump in rates we sent more over to the US, averaged at $1.82 so it worked out really well. Every time theres a high point we still transfer money in case we want to buy any extras, or use it for holiday money.
