I read on an earlier topic that it was much cheaper in US to buy a laptop, can anyone recommend the best place to buy one.

Thanks

There's CompUSA (where we purchased one), Circuit City both on Orange Blossom Trail.

Don't forget you need to declare it to Customs on your way back!

We were out in August and bought a Averatec 3200 series laptop with following spec:
512MB
54Mbps 802.11g Wireless LAN
built in DVD player and CD burner
40GB Hard Drive
4lbs weight

(the above means nothing to me, but husband said it was newest version, and ok for what we needed.)

Bought at Sams Club for just over $1000 (£550approx) including sales tax

Hope this helps

I was out in February and picked up an HP Laptop (p4, 60GB,Wireless-G,DVD Writer,512MB Ram) from Sams Club on the 192 for $799.00. It was ex-display (but still boxed with all accessories).

I could'nt believe my luck, (worth noting that the price of all Computer equipment was very good at Sams Club).

If you have the time I would search the net for UK companies. Prices in the UK are
starting to match the US on a lot of items. Also the risk of customs and warranty
issues back in the uk.

Saying that I did see a lovele beast when we were there and was very tempted to get
it myself at the time

Direct with Compac, Dell etc. - can be made to your own specification and you can track it all the way from order to delivery. Excellent service.

Very much cheaper than in the UK, unless it is 'bog standard' maybe.

Have you looked at the deals stores like Curry's, Comet, PC World are currently doing. I think
they must be trying to clear out their stock for Xmas. Some deals are so cheap at the moment
they even beat Dell

I know Dell in the US is relatively cheap, but I haven't found it so for the UK.The bog standard PC/laptop is a great price, but once you use the configurator to upgrade the hard disk and memory etc, the price shoots up - I've got a Compaq, great spec (at the time!!!) and great price from PC World..........
