Even if you're not of pensionable age in the UK, in the US you may be a senior at 50 or 55. If so, many of the eating places mentioned here give a senior discount. Just ask, they don't often advertise the fact. You could take your passport with you if look younger than your age and you're asked to prove it but this is very often not required.

In many restaurants, you'll also find a senior menu (usually on the back page of the menu) which offers similar choices to the main menu but slightly less in portion size and at a $1 or $2 or so discount. If you're used to the smaller UK portions, don't worry that you will go short of food if you order from this part of the menu. As is usual in US, the portions are much larger than in the UK so you'll still get plenty to eat!
