Hi,

Looking for something reasonably lively in the area.

Any hints?

Thanks

Neither of the following suggestions is exactly 'Country & Western' but certainly lively and you can get good food as well. PAT O'BRIEN'S in City walk is an excellent bar cum restaurant with a New Orleans theme. Also check out THE GLOBE on Wall Street.

Flight to Nahville? Seriously though, can't think of anything of the top of my head. I believe there is a rodeo in Kissimmee on Fridays??

Is it a family affair, or just adults[?]

Hi Dave,
Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede springs to mind - probably lots of good C & W
in there.
Used to be a Country place in Church Street Station, but think it's closed now.
Also one in Disneys Pleasure Island a couple of years back, may still be there.

If you like C & W be sure to tune into k92fm on your rental car - non stop Country Music. [msnwink]

Isn't DPDS more of a C&W Dinner Show than a 'lively bar' that Espiritdave is asking?

Haven't been yet Nostromo - It certainly is a dinner show, But you can drink, be entertained,
eat and listen to C & W and by all accounts watch people trick riding horses and roping bulls
'til the cows(or bulls!) come home! How lively is that?:D It's on my list of "to do's" for TWO WEEKS TODAY!! YYYYEEEEEEEEHHHHHAAAAA!

(If I stay on forum for another 15 mins it'll be A WEEK NEXT THURSDAY!!)

I work in music , amongst other things I play Country Music and have to say that for an American State there doesn't seem to be a lot of it going on in Florida. Maybe I haven't found the right places yet. The radio station is serious OK, but the few places I've come across round Kissimmee/Orlando seem a bit "manufactured" like the now defunct Wild Bills on 192.
I heard that the Gaylord Palms belonged to two Nashville concerns and was originally going to host touring Country artists like Garth Brooks etc. but suddenly the name was changed and I never heard any more about the C&W shows.
Might be worth writing a song about trailing round Orlando in a sixteen wheeler in a hurricane looking for a good C & W bar. (Wonder if dollar do sixteen Wheelers?) :D:D

Oh Kev don't, that is all we listen to in the car on holiday, hubby loves it and although I do not like to admit it publicly I do not mind it either, although I was brought up on a healthy dose of John Cash, Dolly, Kenny & co!!!!

Alan Jackson is flavour of the sound system at the mo!!

CDV,
Try some Dierks Bentley / Collin Raye / Tim McGraw / Sammy Kershaw / George Strait /
Darryl Worley / Lonestar / The Tractors / Travis Tritt / Restless Heart /Joe Nichols / Marty Stuart / Toby Keith / Montgomery - Gentry / Suzy Boguss / Mary Chapin - Carpenter / etc.

If you run out of those I can suggest hundreds more !!:D:D[xx(]

Last time I rented a car k92fm had been left selected on the radio - for the next two weeks it never left that station![msncool]

k92FM for us all the way too.

Alan Jackson is a sore point. We were due to see him in concert at the Silver Spurs back in Feb on the evening of our arrival.

However our plane out developed an engine fault prior to take off so we had to wait for another aircraft with a 3 hour delay.

We eventually arrived at the concert at 9.45 pm just as it was finishing.

There is a bar called Cowboys in Sanford which advertises concerts etc. Gretchen Wilson was playing whilst we were over in July, however you couldn't buy tickets via the web and it was sold out by the time we got to Florida

Kevin,

Shocked to see that you didn't offer a specific mention for Brooks & Dunn - my current favourites. On our last trip (a couple of weeks ago now) we flew to Las Vegas to see them and then back the next day!

BTW...if you (or anybody else) would like to see them live - they are scheduled to do two or three dates in Georgia/Florida during October. Check out the tour section on www.brooks-dunn.com.

Also, if you have time, take a listen to Kenny Chesney.....being touted as the heir apparent to Garth Brooks.

Dave

For those who really want to get their "Redneck On", there are three good country bars in the Orlando area. If you want to stay in the attractions area, you are out of luck. In downtown orlando, not too far from church street is ":08" (eight seconds). This is the "urban cowboy", line dancin', redneckin', hell raisin' bar that you mother told you to never enter. It really doesn't get moving until 10 pm or so and there is a cover charge (not expensive)... The next bar is called "Kowboys": it is on Orange Blossom Trail and is a fun place to go. Big name acts have been known to show up and perform "pick-up" sets. You will occasionally find a big name act scheduled to perform there... The last bar is a real treat: It's called "the Barn" and it's located in Sanford. If you want to know what a real hoot is, go to The Barn. This is where the local country folk go to let their hair down. Many big names perform there, Budweiser is champagne, jeans and cowboy boots (worn) are the dress, the women have tall hair, the men wear cowboy hats, they don't realize that they have an accent, too (lol)and this is the redneck oasis of central Florida. The girls drive camaros and the guys drive 4X4 pickup trucks. Go there ready to have fun and let your hair down. If you are looking for a neat and tidy country bar in Orlando, well, ummm, just go buy a 6 pack of Budweiser, rent the movie "Urban Cowboy" , go back to your villa and sip your beer through a straw! My advice is to go have fun at the Barn. When you get to Orlando, tune your car radio to 92.3 fm, 97.5 fm and get ready to line dance!!! YEEEHAAWWW

Wow the barn sounds great!? I'm 20 and a big country fan and was wondering how i stand with places that serve alcohol? am i allowed in etc? i'm currently in the process of relocating indefinatley to Orlando and am desperate to find places i can go as drinking and socialising are a major part of my weekend - the thought of not being able to do so brings me out in a cold sweat! p.s - was slightly disappointed that the Rascal Flatts have been missed out on the list of 'must listen to country bands!' <blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Originally posted by villagerep
