Emotive subject of this poll is smoking. It is not intened to start any big debates or set smokers off against non smokers or the likes.
As you will notice on most villa adverts they do not allow smoking on the premises and only on the outside areas. Some villas are marketed as non smoking throughout.
Please answer truthfully and with thought to the other members if you have a strong view.
I smoke as many on here know and I do not smoke inside my own house and so would never
smoke inside anyone elses. I always smoke outside even in the winter. I also try and smoke
away from others as I know people dont like the smoke etc

Just to add a note to CDV's initial posting. She just wants the concencus on this subject and does not want to start a smoking vs anti-smoking debate (nor do I for that matter - the subject is way too emotive and people are almost certain to have very polarised views on the subject) [msnsmile2]
To be honest if we were told in advance it was no smoking inside we would respect it, however we have stayed in villas before that mentioned nothing until we got there, that is anoying. We have our own now and always let guests know that they can smoke outside but not in.

I have taken the hint! [msnsmile]. I am sure the others who think like me on this subject will do so too.

Agree with Chrisj. I am also a smoker, but I dont smoke in my house, only outside and would definately not appreciate arriving at a villa to it smelling of cigarettes. :)

CDV, these two are difficult to choose from!!
I would only smoke outside if that was the rule.
I would prefer to rent a no smoking villa
I wanted to choose both!!
Maybe you also need another category. Possibly:
"I would prefer to rent a no smoking villa which permitted smoking outside on the deck"
"I would prefer to rent a villa with no smoking permitted both inside and outside on the deck."?
Many, many homes do not permit smoking inside, under any circumstances, but then the owners of those homes are generally quite happy for smokers to smoke on the deck.
What does this mean?
I would prefer to rent a completely no smoking villa

No smoking anywhere.
What happened to the option to book a non smoking villa, but could smoke on the deck?
I would prefer to rent a no smoking villa

That is option 1 I think!! No smoking inside but outside is ok if that is what the villa T&C say.
"I would only smoke outside if that was the rule of the villa."
Your option one effectively asks whether or not a smoker is prepared to stick to any villa rules!! This option is clearly for smokers only and is totally redundant for anyone who doesn't smoke, as is your second option.
It is certainly not asking everyone if they would prefer to rent a villa that was non smoking within the home, but permitted smoking outside on the deck.
It's a shame because this could have been a good and useful poll, but as it stands any conclusions would be flawed.

I thought that too - surely the poll was aimed directly at smokers travelling to Florida to stay in a villa?

Here Here
Pedantic - probably, but then why do something wrong when you can do it right?
Maybe it's my previous training!! And, as CVD stated, this is often a very emotive subject.
A poll of anything is totally meaningless unless the questions are thought out properly. Of course, if anyone wants to deliberately skew the results of a poll, then they only ask the questions that are most likely to give the results that they wanted.
Smokers and non-smokers have joined in and voted and I don't see anywhere that this poll was aimed at smokers only. The top two options are aimed exclusively at smokers, and ask about their behaviour, whilst the other options are open to all and ask about preferences. Not a logical mix at all.
There is no option for anyone to state that they are happy with this, as mentioned in CDV's second paragraph:
"As you will notice on most villa adverts they do not allow smoking on the premises and only on the outside areas."
Since the vast majority of homes are marketed with no smoking inside, but fine out on the deck/garden areas etc., then it seems crazy to me to leave this option out, particularly in a poll placed in an area where you are asking guests and potential guests to join in.
I had been hoping that the vast majority of owners would be able to determine whether the above was in fact the correct strategy, even though the sampling might well be small, but there is no possibility of that.

I can see where Carla is coming from, for the poll to tell us anything it would either have to be aimed exclusively at smokers OR all of the options would have to be applicable whether the responder was a smoker or not, otherwise the results dont show anything because some of the options are only for smokers.
Actually I dont think that makes it any clearer but I know what I mean.
See the first option, " I would only smoke outside if that was the villa rule " this option will only be selected by a smoker, however most none smokers may well be happy renting a home that allows smoking on the deck as they wouldnt feel it would affect them but they cant select an option that tells us that.
If the poll is only for smokers it doesnt make it clear and I am willing to bet that many none smokers have selected an option thereby skewing the results.

Perhaps to clarify things, you need to start again, so that you keep EVERYONE happy, I would start a poll for smokers and another for non smokers eg.....
Smokers
1. Would you rent a villa which allowed smoking throughout the home.
2. Would you rent a complete non smoking property (no smoking anywhere including outside).
3. Would you rent a non-smoking property which allowed smoking outside.
4. I would smoke anywhere regardless of rules
5. None of the above (please state reasons below)
Non-Smokers
1. Would you only rent a property which had non-smoking throughout. (including outside)
2. Would you only rent a non-smoking property which allows smoking outside.
3. Would you rent a property which allows smoking throughout the home.
4. Both 1&2.
I am sure that others will correct me or point out if and where I have gone wrong.

Me too CarolAnn, my parents were heavy smokers when I was growing up and I hated it. Funnily enough the year before Ray & I got married they both gave up and haven't smoked since.[msnsmile2]
You could easily do a poll for smokers and non-smokers alike with these options:
1. smoking permitted anywhere
2. smoking permitted outside only
3. smoking permitted nowhere
4. don't have a preference
Then all you have to do is make it a poll for GUESTS & POTENTIAL GUESTS ONLY and ask all owners NOT to vote, since we don't need to worry about what owners think because they will never rent our homes!!

Thats proably still potentially flawd as you can only select one option so most none smokers will select 3 whereas they might be happy to rent 2 as well. How about this
A. I would rent a none smoking home
B I would rent a home that allowed smoking only on the deck
C I would rent a home that allowed smoking anywhere
D no preference
and then have the poll as options
A
B
C
D
A and B
A and C
B and C

for my tuppence worth!!!
i smoked for12 years got up to 30/40 a day, then i woke up one day and didnt want to smoke anymore, the only way i could stick to it was by telling myself how much everything stank!!!!!, i have given in a few times due to unexpected bereavements of mum in law (i loved her so much. then my mum passing and nan) that i did succumb but again by telling myself the smell of fags was disgusting!!!!! i can smell it from a mile away!!! so i would NOT stay in a holiday villa where people were allowed to smoke, sorry but when you save for so long for this kind of holiday that sort of thing does matter, hubby never smoked!! says it wouldnt bother him im TOLD EX SMOKERS ARE THE WORST!!!!!! [V]
The times that ive managed to pack up ive after a few weeks noticed how the taste of food
had changed, somethings I eat would start to taste a lot better and somethings would start
to taste horrible
Mind you I am slowly cutting down and only smoke in the evenings, the weekends are hard and I
do have a few during day, But I always have my Cigar on a Sunday evening with a nice cold
can of cider
