View Full Version : HELP NEEDED TO INSERT PHOTO

lindajo

I cannot seem to insert a photo. I follow the instructions (insert file attachment etc) but once the photo has been uploaded - which does take a few minutes - I get a message saying 'Page cannot be displayed'. I note that the maximum is 97.66kb and my photo is 458kb - do I need to reduce my picture size - if so, how do I do it.
Thanks
Lindajo

Hi Lindajo

If you open your photo in any reasonable graphics package like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro you should be able to go to a menu item such as "Resize image" and adjust the size to a smaller size. Good Luck.

There's loads of ways to resize/make the picture smaller in kb but it depends on the software you have on your pc.

I have searched for this website where you can resize on line http://www.resize2mail.com/
Not too sure how it would handle really big photo's or how it would work over dial-up but it worked for me

If it is deleted then please DM me for the link but I don't think it rents/sells any Florida type stuff.

Test

http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/Data/rich-n-ang/200499103613_480x360_Buschtiger.jpg

I've just used the site above to resize the above pic from 368Kb to 29Kb, it was very easy to do and quite quick (on Broadband anyway - not sure how it would be on dialup though), basically you go to the site browse for your picture then click to resize as required then do a save as back to original folder.

Ah, so it's not going to work then...

Open the original in Paint which comes with Windows
It is in Start > Accessories (or Start > Run and type mspaint).

Then save as a JPEG and I think the extension should default to .jpg which should solve your problem.
If not open it in Paint and then save it as a .gif format instead.

If you still got problems, email me and I'll convert it for you.

Many thanks Brizzle.
Wanted to know how to do it for future reference.
I have Roxio but with my limited IT knowledge a number of these programs are too sophisticated for me.
This is a nice easy way if i want to upload anything.
Thanks

Cool, glad you got it sorted.
Nice pic by the way. I can imagine myself sat in one of those loungers (other way around though) sipping a bud.

I have my pictures saved on the computer under "My pictures". Is this the problem why I can never upload them?

brizzle
25-10-2004, 15:29
Shouldn't be a problem
The only rules are :

1) it has to be 97KB or less
2) it is in the jpg or gif format

If you right click on a photo in My Pictures and look at properties the picture's 'Size:' should be 97KB or less.
If you use the site specified above you can resize photo's down to a smaller size and hopefully then you can upload them to this site.

Brizzle.

Help please!! What is an avatar? Is it the pic on the left with the posters name? If so where do you get them from & how do you insert them? This is a real struggle if you are technically challenged!! V chuffed though that I can add a pic to the thread (or at least I managed it once!).

advice given to a member of the forum -- only removed the name snapper [msnwink]

<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Originally posted by Snapper
Before you do anything ...... make a copy of the original image files

Then ... using the copies only

Open one in Microsoft Paint and then press CTRL-W (Control and W together). This will give you a box called stretch and skew. If you put 25 for the percentage in both the horizontal and vertical and hit Enter this should size them about right.

Then you neeed to save them; which is why it's really important to take a copy first as once they are saved after being shrunk there is no way to get the original size and detail back again.

Another way to get the stretch/skew box is from the menu bar. It's on Image-&gt;Stretch/Skew.

If you are running Windows XP there are 2 ways to get the images into Paint. The usual way is to right click the file and choose Open With and then choose Paint. There is a bit of a shortcut that I tend to use, which is just to double click the image and have it open in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Then if you press CTRL-E (Control and E together) it will transfer it into Paint for you.

Don't forget to make those copies first.

Can anyone advise, I am trying to replace the Front View Photo on our Villa advert but I can't seem to get it to change to the new photo.
Have deleted the old front view then uploaded the new front view but for some reason reverts back to the original picture. I have ticked the box to let it know that this is a new front view of the Villa but it doesn't update. Hope you understand.

Help [msncry][/quote]Have a look in the Advertisers' area and you'll see some recent help about this as I don't want to explain it all in the Guest area of the forums as it's obviously of no interest to anyone who's not an Advertiser.

OK, I will ask for help.

Is it still possible to illustrate posts with pictures positioned within the text, such as this fine example:

http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/showthread.php/51656-Baseball-Our-son-Arun-Pitching

I have done it on the old software, but I'm not having any success using this new version.

Any pointers gratefully received. Thanks.

It should be possible, yes.

Go to do a new post and click the 'Go Advanced' button below and to the right of where you are composing your message. You'll then get an expanded toolbar for writing messages. On the second row, in the fourth group of icons, there is one that allows you to upload a picture. I've not tried it, but this should insert the picture in the current place you are up to in your message.

Sorted.

For anyone else struggling with this :

Go to Settings (Top right of screen), then find General Settings, then Miscellaneous Options, and then ensure Message Editor Interface is NOT set to Basic Editor.

Simples. [msnsmile]

And my latest discovery - after inserting the image, you may have to double click the small image in the message editor and select a larger size. For me it defaulted to thumbnail.
