If you go in December and January you should almost definitely see the Manatee. The day we went there were over 70 of these gentle creatures. They come into the springs as the water is a permanent 72 degrees. When the temps heat up they go back into the St John River.
This is a lovely uncommercialised day out. It costs about $4 a car. Everything is natural and there is just one log cabin where you can get a drink and a small snack. There are picnic tables if you want to bring your own. The park is so unspoilt and beautiful-I feel very envious of people living nearby-who can wander in whenever they want. There is also a children's play area.
You can swim in the springs after lunch-but you must not approach the manatee.
