View Full Version : New Years Eve
Does anybody have any suggestions for what we can do on NYE? Have never been to Fla for Xmas or New Year so we are at a bit of a loss on what to do.
There are 9 of us travelling, 5 adults (35-80!) and 4 kids (12-16). Not sure we want to do any of the parks or PI/CityWalk etc. So if anyone has any ideas of anything else that goes on any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt

At Pleasure Island, they claim it is New Years's Eve every night at midnight; so I expect that they'll have quite a shindig for the actual event!
I know that Latin Quarter at Universal's City Walk and The House of Blues at Downtown Disney Westside have special events for NYE. You can check the details by e-mailing them or on the websites.
But I am sure that LOTS of other places will have NYE events. (For example, I have heard something about a good 'do' at Gaylord Palms, but have no idea what sort of party it will be).
You could do a dinner show as they all make a bit of a splash. Or the Cirque du Soleil is very special any night followed by a nice meal say on the Boardwalk and catch the Disney fireworks overhead by remote.

I just remembered, Pat O'Brien's at the City Walk is another exciting place during NYE.

We didn't want to do a park on NYE so we had a meal at The Outback and then went to the boardwalk where we were able to see both sets of fireworks MGM and Epcot at the same time. It was a great view and not crowded at all.
Having said -the Gaylord Palms sounds like a great alternative.
New Year's Day we spent on the beach at Sarasota-something I've always wanted to do!

Boardwalk gets my vote every time! I was in Epcot last NYE and the atmosphere was amazing, although a little more adult orientated than I was expecting. There were dance stages set up around the World Showcase, some had 20 foot flames coming out of the top, others were giving things away, but all had a wonderful feeling.
At midnight, we stood by International gateway (entrance that leads to Boradwalk where we met our chauffeur (dad!)) to watch the fireworks, and I can honestly say the display nearly brought tears to my eyes! I have never seen so many incredible fireworks. I could also see MK's fireworks and MGM's, only slight disappointment was that they didn't all set off simultaneously so have no idea when we were actually bringing in the new year! What a night that I will always remember!
Dad and other family were in the Boardwalk and saw MGM's and Epcots fireworks clearly. BIG hassle getting home though, but so worth it!
Does anyone know what the crowds are like at Epcot for NYE? I'm thinking we may go over there for the day but don't want to go over too early.
Also, the back entrance through Disney's Boardwalk may be a better option of getting in, but is that operable during special days such as NYE?
Otherwise we may just take OB's option and just do something over at the Boardwalk for the evening, but I myself would prefer to go in to Epcot:)

I am sure the crowds and atmosphere will be good on NYE for all Disney parks, but personally I prefer to go to more grown-up places for NYE where one can celebrate without embarassing one's kids.[msnwink]
:D:DNostromo, that would be me too normally, however, I also love embarrassing the kids!! They love their Uncle Matt .
However, as I've been made designated driver, I'd prefer to be somewhere with no temptation heading towards the devilish booze[}:)]

Thoroughly recommend Downtown Disney for New Years Eve. Went a couple of years ago and enjoyed a meal at the House of Blues followed by a stunning concert with Cindi Lauper - included free champagne and fireworks. Has places to be indoors as well in case the weather isn't good! Our friends did Epcot last year and left before midnight because it poured down.
