Whats old town like on a saturday night. Have nothing planned for this day on our trip. Is this a very busy night, is there any entertainment on. Any ideas on how to fill the rest of the day would be apprieciated.
Thanks Marv

Saturday night is THE night to visit Old Town. While most of the shops and attractions are open during the week, the atmosphere on a Saturday night is the best.

There is also the the classic car cruise, a live band and a lot more street entertainment.

As for the rest of the day, we tend to avoid the parks on a Saturday (if possible) as the weekend tends to bring crowds of Floridians. We get the inevitable shopping over and done with and relax by the pool.

Even just watching people go up in the (I call them bungee jumps-but I think they are called sky screamers) is an entertainment in itself.

I could quite happily watch them all night.

Definitely go to Old Town on Saturday night - it's a great night out and the atmosphere for the car cruise is excellent. There's usually a live band on and a couple of great bars to spend the evening relaxing.

Would also recommend that you visit Old Town on a Saturday night as this is when it is liveliest. Have to agree with Orlandobabe, we could watch those mad so and so's on the sky screamer too. No way would you catch us up there!

There's a car park there Chris - on the right as you drive in the sidestreet entrance, to the right of the mini roundabout/crossroads. Or straight on if you come in via the 192.

When we went last August, the car park was over flowing and it was park wherever you can find a space, so Ray did, in the middle of the biggest, muddiest puddle he could find.

I had not originally included Old Town in my itinerary apart from a passing glance. But thanks to the experts in these forums, I cannibalised my carefully planned schedule to set aside a full Saturday Evening for Old Town. I am glad that I did, although I have not been there before. I think it is going to be one of the highlights of our trip.

The Skycoaster opens at midday each day as do, I believe, the other rides.

Whilst the evening atmosphere is fantastic I would suggest an early afternoon visit for the rides and return later for the atmosphere. There are rarely any queues during the weekday afternoons and the ride operators tend to be unoccupied and therefore chatty and they will often offer better deals and longer rides when quiet.

The Skycoaster riders were left to swing for longer during the day and the slingshot operators were letting riders "fly" twice, which they were not doing at busy times. (First flight at 75% power and the second at full force (with tips on how to make the cage spin more) if you were foolish enough to go again.)

Get the bargains during the day and then go back later to enjoy watching the other riders suffer on the live video link when they get busy.

But part of the picture in Old Town seems to be the Country Fair atmosphere and it might be more fun if there are lots of other people cheering (or jeering??) one on! No, I think we will stick to our 5pm schedule and stay till the park closes. I have heard that even though the 'official' losing time is 11pm, on Saturday nights some of the bigger rides will go on till midnight.

If you want to park on a Saturday night I suggest you arrive early. We usually arrive around 5pm and the car parking is pretty scarce even then but we have always managed to find a space. We then go fpor something to eat before we start walking around, but the atmosphere on a Saturday night is something not to be missed.

We'll be renting a vill in Orange Tree, not that far off. We will probably take taxis. I feel we will need some...ah...fortification before those rides and this may render all of us non-driveworthy.
