Hi, we are out mid october and would like to swim with the manatees. I have seen some threads on here but nothing recently. What we were wondering is, do they do the tours in mid october on the Homosassa River. What the drive is like to there and have you been on a tour and could you recommend the a tour company. Oh and what are the chances of actually seeing some manatees. We don't mind an early start, I think it takes about 2 hours from kissimmee so would have to be up about 3/4 am.

We took our boys on a tour by Birds Underwater and they had a fantastic time. Manatees are more active in the morning although the young and juveniles are not quite as lethargic as the adults after lunch and it is for this reason it is better to see them in the morning.

I would ring which ever tour company you decide to use and ask what the chances are for seeing manatees in October.

Hi Andy
One of my owners (his name Andy too) actually did this last year and he has a video of it, so I will contact him and ask him if it is ok to give you his e mail address. He loved it and I'm sure would be happy to give you lots of information about it. My husband was actually going to go with him again last December but it was too cold - October should be lovely though! dm me and I'll pass your details on to him.

If it is too warm in October then they do not always come up river so early so there might not be as many about.
