Hi all,

We're going to Florida this Friday for 2 weeks and by the look of the current weather it's going to be mid 60's and mostly sunny for at least the first week. My wife and mum are asking me what sort of clothes that relates to ??

I'm a graphic designer and furniture designer by trade not a meterologist so do not know what to suggest.

I'm hoping all you regular visitors will have some suggestions as to what mid 60's mostly sunny feels like in relation to shorts/t shirts or long trousers and jackets?! Kids are 11, 8, 7 and 20 months.

Evenings will be much cooler but not too worried about that as we will be back in the villa most nights and have warmer clothes for the fireworks etc on the evenings.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions / information.

Cheers

Mid 60s is what we normally get in a British summer so perhaps it might help to think of it that way? You're coming from somewhere colder so mid 60s will probably feel quite warm to you.

We always travel with layers. Shorts, T-shirts etc and then long trousers, light cardigans or long sleeve something or others. Air con in public places can sometimes be quite fierce so a wrap up or something long sleeved might help.

This time of the year we usually also travel with fleeces, at least for our journey from/to UK but these might come in useful if there should be a day or so of a chilly snap.

So, it's a peel on and off situation really but if you take a mixture, then you're never going to get caught out.

Have a great time - wish it was us.

I hope its warm...I can tell my heating has been on in the villa in FL so the weather must be cooler than normal..here in MA I've been below freezing for 3 months or more..its getting a little old...this has put my move to Alaska on hold...LOL

You will definitely need some warmer clothing as although the temperatures look as though they are in the 60's, it is the wind chill that feels cold. It is warming upto 70 today, the sun is shining, the skies are blue, but it still feels really chilly. Better to be comfortable as being cold makes everyone miserable which is the last thing you need. We have been here 6 weeks and most days have needed a fleece and in the evenings a really warm jacket.

You will have a great time anyway as with a blue sky, it just makes you feel better

Hi Gary, we also fly out this weekend and as Blott says, it is layers for us. At this time of year I make sure I have a warm jacket for the evenings, and a couple of sweaters, just in case - usually for the flight home when we return to freezing London - then if I don't use them I am delighted, and if I need them I have them at the ready. But I also pack t-shirts and shorts and summer weight trousers, plus some cardigans, so I have a mixture of clothes which I can add layers to

It's looking like an extra case to share will be needed for some more warmer clothes!! We have clothes to travel in which includes a fleece for everyone (hoped not to need them through the day though).

Mid 60's with a chill factor wasn't what i expected but if there's one thing you can't guarantee it's the weather.

Well, Gary, we have snow falling here on the south coast at the moment, so its absolutely freezing, so mid 60's is going to seem like heaven to us on Sunday!

The thing is, of course, that you are more likely to see sunshine than you are during a British summer, and that does make a huge difference. Just walking about in the sunshine makes you feel warmer, so 60 degreees in Florida with the sun shining feels a lot nicer than 60 degrees in the UK with cloud and rain.

Hope you have a great time. Just think, when we are walking round in 60+ degrees all our friends and family back home in Blighty will be shivering in temps of minus 1 or less! Whoopee!

Yes this is very true Ellie, we will have a great time whatever the weather and to even consider putting shorts and a tshirt on in February is a bonus!!

We have been watching the forecast closely and obviously hoped for mid 70's at some point which could still happen i suppose.

Snow expected for us in Leeds by Wednesday but thankfully not in Manchester so hoping for an on-time flight.

Have a great time Ellie

I'm here at the moment and you will need at least a jumper and a light jacket, today was cool this morning but lovrly snd warm this afternoon but on a daily basis the weather can be totally different. According to people her it has been unusually cold for this length of time. So layers is the best way to go.

I live on the south coast and we haven't had any snow ! Just looked at your profile and now know your part of the region, I heard that it had been snowing on Portsdown Hill hence you having snow, we never get any in Gosport unless it is really bad like in January.

Hope you have a fantasic holiday - I am not jealous or anything like that !

Enjoy your holiday as well Gary, look forward to some trip reports when you get back.

I don't mind the snow...it does warm a bit after a snow fall..but its this none stop cold..the house never has time to warm up...I've near enough used up all my winter wood..most years I have a good amount left..

I would of loved snow in the UK when I had my sled dogs...they only saw snow twice...one dog was a puppy at the time and it scared her I had to go out and carry her indoors from her kennel..then she learned how to make snowballs and I could not get her in..she would make a hole in the snow and sleep there all night like she was born in Alaska or something...

It's looking like the weather will be just fine for next week.

We have packed just an extra jumper each and are now all set.

I will have lots of photos and of course a trip report to share with everyone when we return.

2 more sleeps til we get ourselves off to the Radisson at Manchester airport for the night. Friday sees us off to the sunshine state!

It is worth mentioning that the temperature quoted e.g. 'mid 60's' is the maximum temperature during the day - normally mid afternoon.

At this time of year when it is bright and sunny the temperature drops off quickly and it is cold at night(the next few nights are in the 30's) so mornings are not shorts and T shirt weather.

Unfortunately the forecast for the next week is not warm at all. We have been following it carefully as we leave for UK next Wednesday after a 6 week stay with very few warm days. It has just got to get warmer soon.......... I have only worn shorts a couple of times and once was when we went on a cruise to Mexico a couple of weeks ago. Never mind, back in April for another 6 weeks - it's got to have heated up by then

That's often overlooked when comparing temperatures with the UK.

The average summer temperature during a UK summer is around 70 degrees but it stays around that level for many hours a day. You will not find Orlando in February to be anything like a British summer but it will be very much warmer than a British February!

Have a great time.

I remember being in FL one year and it was colder than MA for a few days and MA was under a few feet of snow..my family found it very funny...the weather is bad all over..we have a storm coming its snowing now..not much snow expected maybe a foot ...we have been lucky so far and most of the bad storms have missed us this year..it would be nice to be warm for a few weeks..we are in FL on the 24th..we are placing a new fireplace in the bedroom but not sure I want to be using it...

Is this weather Florida is experiencing right now normal for February? We go in just over 4 weeks and I have started packing shorts t-shirts etc, I just hope I haven't got to take them out and replace them with Jeans and jumpers! Also, if its glum weather will the water parks be open? Only I was told if its too bad they shut them.

I think the weather is unusually cold and within 4 weeks it can very easily improve. HArd to say but you'll probably be fine.

This winter so far has been really cold and the week ahead is very poor according to the forcasts.

The statistics below for March give you a good indication of the range of temperatures you should get i.e. Afternoon highs in the high 70's, lows at night in the mid fifties.

However the possible variations are enormous low 90's to a frost at night.

Sorry about the formatting, but for March 1st

1 = 53F 2 = 76F 3 = 36F 4 = 86F

Hi, I was at school in Southsea when we had snow showers - it is amazing how it can be snowing here and not over the hill or snowing over the hill and not in Portsmouth.

We are off today - its 2.50 (AM!) and I am still finishing some paperwork, but about to go to bed. Can't wait for tomorrow, I get that feeling of excitement as soon as we shut the front door and start the car up!

Whatever the weather, I simply can't wait to get to Florida. Will try and do a trip report this time.
