Day trip would be a long day. Miami is at least 3-4 Hours drive. Have you thought of staying over

It is a long drive - about 4 hours. But you get to see another side to Florida - and it is worth the trip. South Beach is very impressive - both for the beach and the restaurants along Ocean Drive. Also the views of the big posh houses and boats as you go over the intercoastal causeway are fantastic (can't remember which is the best bridge to take)

I believe the night life is pretty good as well, so probably well worth an overnight stay.

We are going down to the Keys for a couple of days when we go next week. So we may stop off in Miami on the way.

We really like Fort Lauderdale too. It's not far from Miami and they have a lovely artist/gallery area too, nice to wander around and boat trips around all the waterways with expensive houses!
