We are travelling with quite two big girls (to be very polite). They are both in their twenties and really want to enjoy the theme parks with us. Do you know whether there have been any issues with larger folks being able to get on the rides. For example are the safety belts and harnesses generous. Any advice would be useful. Thanks.

I would imagine that most of the rides would accommodate larger people as there are hoards of large people here in the USA. The parks would be quite empty. Maybe you could email Disney etc., to ask them.

Well I am 6' and weight 19 stone and find some of of the coasters tight to say the least. Some have a couple of larger seats upfront, so best to ask before boarding.

Universal have 2 seats in two rows on a couple of rides whcih accommodate larger people. the rows are specially marked. This is definately the case on hulk and duellling dragons as I always make sure my son does not sit in theses as they seem not to shut so tight as the others. Also some rides have seats to try out outside the queue area so that you dont waste your time queing and find you cant get in them.

Some of the rides have seats outside for you to try. On the down side when we were on the Jimmy Neutron ride a couple of years ago they asked if everybody was ok and a guy couldn't put the bar down. He had to leave and he had to leave from near from the front (with everybody watching) Felt for him

yes it can be very very embarresing, my next door neighbours came with us last year the whole family are big people ie Mum is size 24 dad around 20st and although America has the highest number of big people in the theme parks the rides are just not geared for them .
My neighbours found it almost unbearable after the first few rides such as the Hulk and Spider man to be told sorry your too big , you will have to wait for an outsize seat when one becomes available . In the end they gave up and didnt ride anything after that.

BTW Busch gardens are worst for it ...

Busch Gardens are worst for lots of things, IMHO. IF it weren't for the fact that all the family, apart from me, love the thrill rides we wouldn't bother

As a big guy, I found Busch Gardens the worst too. They have signs outside Shiekra (sp?) saying that there are seats available to accomodate those of up to 52in chest on the third seat in on each row.

As I said, I'm a big guy, but I've not got a 52in chest. When I got to the seat (front row, no less!), I couldn't get the restraint to close. They opened the restraints and I had to leave in full view of everyone.

For the record, I had NO problems on any ride at Disney, just Bush Gardens and some of the faster rides at IOA.

I am holidaying at present in Myrtle Beach and the USA is full of very large people and I would imagine if the parks did not cater for them then their yearly takings would be considerably less.

I am wat you would call a big guy with a chest measuring 52" and I managed to get on everything I wanted to at IoA, US and Busch Gardens last year. Yes I had to use the extra large seats which accomodate people like me with large upper bodies with no problems. I must admit if your friends were much bigger than a 52" chest it may start to become a struggle on the rides that use over the shoulder harnesses
