| Can i ask all you experts, where do you leave your passports while on holiday? Our villa does not have a safe. Some advice is just leave it in the villa anyway, others say always carry them with you! Thanks for any advice |

| We usually either lock in a safe if provided or carry it around. Have to admit, it is not too much bother to carry it around |

| If you do not have any other form of photo ID you will need to carry it round with you in any case. I am sure that it is a Florida State Law requirement that you carry photo id at all times. No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong

| most places ask for photo id if you are cashing travelers cheques,so if dont have a photo driving licence you will need to have it with you. We were stopped on the I-27 by the police late one night and the police asked for our passport because we have the old style licence, luckily I had my husbands in my bag. When i do leave it in the villa I usually put them in a plastic bag along with tickets etc and tape them to the back of the headboard in the master or the underside of a drawer. |

| We used to hide them around the villa until we got a safe...thing was we change where we'd put them and forget were we'd hidden them...does that make sense?

| We have a double lockable cupboard at our villa just for us. We keep a number of things in it which are extemely useful when we are in Florida but no use taking back to the UK.
We lock our passports in this cupboard for safe keeping along with other things we feel need to be kept safe. | Jane & Fraser http://www.orlandovillas.com/florida-vacation-rental-1910.aspx

| It makes no difference, as they have all the info on file anyway. You get issued with a temp permit to travel, which is basicly a sheet of A4 paper. Took me about 30 minutes to get mine issued, I was very impressed with how quick and easy everything was.

I was asked in Target the other day to show ID because I was buying wine. I told the cashier I was flattered.....I'm the wrong side of 50
I read an article the other day that suggested taking a photocopy of your passport and always carrying that with you separately, just in case the passport gets lost/stolen, as it would make it an awful lot easier to get a replacement.

| My passport goes with me where ever I go,
reason one
I drive in the US and accordingly may need photo ID
reason two
I purchase alcohol in the US and accordingly may need photo ID (I did five years ago at aged 46 in Wallmart!!!!)
I just take great care and know where my PP is at all times.quote: Originally posted by shona where is the first point of contact if you do loose your passport?
First report to the Police and then the British consulate is how I think it goes.

| After being stopped by the Park Ranger in CA we learned the hard way to always carry photo ID.
I was also asked for it a couple of times on our most recent trip when paying by CC.
