| Hi, we're going to be staying in the Davenport area, having always stayed near the 192 on previous trips.
Could anyone advise me please, is there a decent Walmart or Publix near to the Davenport area? Also which would be the nearest mall?
I've read on here good reports about The Millenia Mall, which is a new one on me - whereabouts is that please?
Thanks folks. | Dave. |

| Hi Dave,
There is indeed a Publix supermarket in this area. Is is on the US 27 in shopping strip called Berry Town Centre and is next to Highlands Reserve on the right hand side if you were coming from the 192 and going south on the 27, approx 2.5 to 3 miles.
There is also a Walmart at Caguns Crossing (near the junction of the 192/27 and a Walmart at Haines City, it depends where abouts you are staying as to the nearest one Dave. Which community are you staying on?
Millenia Mall is relatively new - guessing about 2 or 3 years old and is quite near Universal Studios. There is a Cheesecake Factory there which shouldn't be missed
Posner Park is another development that new stores are opening all the time and is near the junction of 27/I4. | Diane http://www.orlandovillas.com/florida-vacation-rental-349.aspx

| It depends where you are in Davenport. There is are 2 Publix nearby. One on Champions Gate and another one just a mile away on Lake Wilson Road. There are a number of new shops opening there too. The Posner Centre is not far away either just at the junction of the I4 and the 27 and there are new stores opening there all the time. When we were there last there was JC Penney and a Super Target. Also a sports store a Michaels a bookstore and more opening all the time.
I'm sure you will have a great time.

| Wow, speedy replies, thanks.
I will have to consult a map to find out where we will be, as I'm totally new to that region. I'll be back with more details soon!

| You could well be South of the I4.
There is a Publix opposite the Hospital somewhere between 3 - 4 miles form the I4, there is a Walmart in Davenport by southern Dunes.
there is a lovely quiet Mall called Eagle Ridge Mall this is further south on the I4. You will find bowling and a cinema here also.
Might be worth finding out where in Davenport you are then we can give you a better idea. | Christine

| | Hmm, does Whittier Street mean anything to anyone? It seems to be off Lake Shore Parkway, which is itself off Ronald Reagan Parkway, just South of Exit 58 of the I4. Anyway, that's where we're staying. Sorry I've no idea which community this is. However that's where we'll be setting off from in search of shops! | Dave. |

| Aha, I've found Champions Gate in my guide book, yep we're staying very close to there by the look of this (rather vague) map.
Having found our location on the map, I feel slightly better, I thought we were staying in the middle of nowhere, but the I4 leads to most places by the look of it - I'll be clocking up some miles on the I4 I think.
Does Champions Gate offer any other shops?
Thanks again for everyone's input. | Dave. |

Oh, it's OK, I just found a full list on the Champions Gate website! The Internet is wonderful. Can I assume BP Connect is a Gas Station? Or I'm I just being too British? | Dave. |

| BP at Champions GAte is a 'gas' station. THere are many more shops going up at Champions GAte. Christine, have you tried google maps or google earth you can get a good 'feeel' for the area by zooming in and out,
Davenport itself is a tiny place but I guess its a post sorting place. For example we are at Calabay North of the I4 and nowhere near DAvenport but we always have to quote Davenport. | Ian Dee

| | Dave, I own a home on Whittier st on Bridgewater Crossing and I think you will find it very convenient for everything. If you take a left out of the development then left again onto Old Lake Wilson, go to the top of that road and you are at the top (ish) end of the 192 where you get onto the Disney World Drive in minutes. If you have been before then you will instantly recognise where you are. Championsgate, which is 2 mins away from where you are staying, has a large publix and various other shops, also a mcdonalds and a Chillis and there are more restaurants and shops on the way. A little way up Old Lake Wilson, at the first traffic lights there is another new publix and various shops such as a pizza parlour, dunkin dougnuts, walgreens etc. I think you will be really happy with the location of your villa as its easy access to all of the theme parks and the 192 with all its restaurants. Its also a quiet area to come back and relax in the evenings by the pool. Have a great time. Gill | http://www.onlinefloridavillas.com/Villas/1971.aspx |

Has anyone actually been to Davenport? As it is our mailing address (we are just off Champions Gate) we thought we ought to take a look but couldn't find it!! We expected it to be at least like Haines City but after following the signs it didn't seem to take us to anywhere.
Similarly as we are in Polk County we thought we would see what Polk City was like. After driving backwards and forwards around a crossroads we realised that was it!! It's probaly even smaller than Intersession City on the South OB Trail On the upside we stumbled across the brilliant Fantasy of Flight just outside Polk City. Only meaning to spend a couple of hours there we spent the whole day and reluctantly left at closing time .
If you can tear yourself away from Disney et al, exploring off the beaten track is fascinating. 'Rural' Florida is such a contrast to all the glitz and glamour and quite an eye opener.

| Coming out of Bridgewater, if you turn left and follow Ronald Reagan Parkway along to Hway 27 and go north (just above the 192) you'll find a Walmart there which was only opened a couple of years ago.
Mall of Millenia is about junction 82 off the I4. It is mostly designer stores with Macys . Bloomingdales, Tiffany etc and is good for looking round and eating but we tend to window shop there more than other malls.
Incidentally, if you are trying to get your bearings at all, you may not know how the junctions work with the I4. The junction numbers are mile markers from the start of the Interstate (in the case of the I4 that is Tampa). So if you are going from Champions Gate , Junction 58 to Mall of Millenia (assuming 82) then its around 24 miles. Obviously from Champions Gate to Tampe is 58 miles.
Helps when you are trying to get a rough guide to whether a trip is feasible in time you have available. | Babblin Boo http://www.orlandovillas.com/villas/92.aspx

| | Mine generally is, I think it is because in the UK I don't have to use it at all, hubby can find his way anywhere but when we go to Florida he has to concentrate on driving on the wrong side and making sure he's turning the right way etc. that he can't fathom the navigation as well. | Babblin Boo http://www.orlandovillas.com/villas/92.aspx

| | We have stayed at Davenport the last 3 times we have been (last time we specifically looked for Davenport) We love Davenport as you can get everywhere easily (Universal was a bit further away but still easy) but it's not that busy. We could not believe how much it had changed though in 2 years. Posner Park was great for some local shopping as was Champion's Gate (that moght have been there before but we didn't find it?)We used the Walmart on H27 and there are some nice places to eat there too. Did rack up quite a few miles on the I4! |

| Wow, you're all such mines of information! I think I'll have to print this lot off and see if I can follow all your directions when I get there!
Steph, I've been to Orlando on four previous occassions, and have to admit to being totally baffled by the junction numbers on the I4. You have just been pipped to the post in your explanation, which I read in my latest Brit Guide to Orlando only last week, It was a revelation though when I read it!
Well, it sounds as if we've got everything we could possibly need close by then - Walmart, Publix, pizza and Dunkin Donuts - it doesn't get any better than this!!
We're getting very excited now, 7 weeks to go, car booked (yes, through this site), Discovery Cove booked, Disney tickets purchased, low-interest loan for rest of my life organised, Skype installed on laptop so Wife can talk to her friends at home all bloomin evening, I've just got to arrange an 8 hour playlist for my mp3 player now so I can lock myself away in "Dave's World" throughout the flight.
Many, many thanks for all your help in this matter. If you could just arrange for a $2=£1 exchange rate again, I'll be a happy chappy indeed. | Dave. |
