Dollar or Alamo? Who would you recommend going with?

Does Alamo give you a full tank of petrol and you bring it back empty and don't have to pay for a full tank? What about Dollar regards petrol? It's all very confusing!!

We have used both Dollar and Alamo always the gold option which means you do not have to fill the car up before returning it. The other differences are with Alamo you get to chose your car from within a range of cars and Dollar allocate you a car. Dollar also have a Dollar Express service you can sign up to and reduce (normally) the wait time at the airport to collect your car, which is useful after a long flight. Both are apt to try and get you to upgrade either the car or insurance but if you book through the above link then unless you want to pay more to upgrade the size or type of car then it is not necessary.

Dollar purely for the queue jumping facilities offered by having a Dollar Express card. The Dollar Express card is free of charge and can save 30-40 minutes of queueing for hire car paperwork.

Having used both my persoal preference would still be Dollar.

Dollar Advantages: Express card/usually newer and better valeted cars/shorter distance to the Dollar desk at Sanford.
Disadvantages: not so many discounted rates/ you don't get to pick your individual car.

Alamo Advantages: Choose your car from several(not always! )/ Occasional "special" deals
Disadvantages: Often not as new cars and not as well valeted.

We picked up a car from Budget last night at MCO, booked through http://www.floridahire.com/ on this site.

We pre-registered my husband as the main driver, online direct with Budget, and all we had to do was to go to the booth in the car park where he signed on the dotted line, flashed his license and credit card to prove that it was really him, and we got our car. It couldn't have been easier.

Full tank of fuel and we take it back empty. Spouse is automatically covered to drive with same insurances, so no need for me to sign either.
