Hello,

My husband and I are retired, 60 years old. We've lived in NY all our lives. Because of high taxes up here and the cost of maintaining a home, we are moving to Florida - to an over 55 community.

It may be untrue, but we've heard that finding a good Medical Doctor will be difficult after we move. Since we are both under doctors care here for a variety of ailments, we are very concerned.

Is it indeed difficult to find a good doctor who is affiliated with an excellent hospital in Florida? How do we go about it aside from asking new neighbors who their doctors are.

Thank you.

Lynn

If it were me Lynn I would look up some doctors on the internet in the area that you are considering moving to and contact them directly to see what they specialise in and get a feel for how they communicate with you. There must be some excellent ones who deal with older patients because there are so many older people in Florida. I have friends over 60 who live in the Dr. Phillips area of South Orlando and they receive excellent care from their doctors, when needed. Your new neighbors will doubtless be a great source of info too. Perhaps you could ask the realtor if he/she can give you a list of doctors in the area?

Good luck with your search. I think that changing doctors is a difficult decision for everyone no matter where they are moving from and to.

If you move somewhere near The Villages, you will find a whole block of different doctors all together. The Villages is one of the largest retirement communities in the US.

This site has many US residents. I live in Seminole County. If you want I'll give you the name of our family doctor. He's very good, and takes most insurance policies.
