Hello everyone,
we just returned from a fantastic holiday in Florida and enjoyed it so much that we are allready planning our next vacation in 2009. Thanks for all the tips!

I have a question concerning flights. Since we depart from Amsterdam the best option is to fly BA to Gatwick and change there to Orlando. We did that this year and the connection and service from BA was very good.
Next year we basically want to take the same flights but would like to fly premium economy. However if I look at the prices on Ba.com I find that these flights are more than double the price of normal economy tickets (2500 euro for 4 of us vs 6300 euro)? I cannot believe that the people we saw in premium this year would pay that much extra for a bit more legroom so my question to you is what you would consider a 'normal' price difference between economy and premium and if you have any tips on obtaining more reasonably prices premium economy tickets (preferably with BA) ?

thanks very much
Peter

Whether Premium Economy (BA call it World Traveller Plus) seats are worth the extra is a matter of personal opinion but, as you've seen, there can be a big difference in the fare. You actually have a good start living outside the UK because BA's prices out of European countries tend to be less than ex UK. That said, they will always be a fair bit more.

I'm not sure the extent to which these things are available in the Netherlands but I'd suggest looking at collecting miles on things like credit cards and the BA e-store (through their website). You can then use these miles to upgrade from the economy fare. My own personal favourite is Tesco Clubcard points (again, I don't know whether that would work for you). Used with a BA Amex card you can get some great rewards surprisingly quickly. My wife and I are flying BA First Class to the US this summer just on what I've collected over the past 9 months or so.

I personally think it's overpriced for what it is but you may feel (as many others do) that it's money well spent. I certainly wouldn't want anybody to make their decison based upon what my preferences are. Although it's more money again, I think Business Class fares can be better VALUE.

The PE/WT+ cabins are pretty much always fully booked so perhaps I'm in the minority! If you do a search on here you'll find lots of threads discussing the pros and cons.

Hi Peter,

I know this might be going the wrong way entirely, but have you also considered flying Club World with BA? It's another rung up in price from PE but the flip side is that the cabin and service are just awesome

I'm a bit like you in that I'm not sure if the price difference from economy to premium is worth the extra legroom; but I think the price difference from premium to club is more akin the the hugely higher quality product you get.

Check out the flight into Tampa too (BA fly LGW->TPA as well as LGW->MCO). This is our flight of choice as because Tampa isn't as busy as Orlando International we can usually be at the villa quicker by flying into Tampa.

Have fun.

Steve.
