Always toilet, then duty free. Sit and people watch while eating something I have packed in my bag as girls are always starving by then as none of us can eat as soon as we get up.

Even though we do online check-in these days, hubby always insists on getting to airport so we're first in queue for fast bag drop. It has paid off for us once, though, when flying with US Air on an overbooked flight. They asked us if we would mind going via a different airport, arrive earlier than scheduled, enjoy upgrades to business class and use the free executive lounge facilities. Yes please!

When we are stuck with economy, we will grab breakfast and head for the kids play area at Gatwick - please don't ask me where to find it, as it's well-hidden and I just follow hubby! There is a soft play area and some little computers and my two will easily pass a few hours there while I bag-sit and hubby enjoys a bit of aircraft-spotting.

As its nearly always an early start its always a big slap up breakfast. You don't seem to mind paying over the odds for a badly cooked ,greasy breakfast when you're going on holiday.
