Hi all,

I am off with the family to Orlando in Sept/Oct for 3weeks.

I have a 17 daughter who loves Mustangs and am looking to hire one for a weekend, I have already booked a 7 seater for the trip.

I don't want a Sebring as it just wont be the same for her, what would you suggest?

many thanks
Gary

Your best best is to choose Budget on our site www.uscarhire.co.uk as you will be almost certain to be allocated the Mustang with them (note, as ever, this can not be 100% guaranteed). You can choose a local depot such as Kissimmee Old Town on the 192 to collect and drop to avoid having to go back to the airport.

Watch what you are doing with Dollar though , my son just returned today ,and as a surprise we booked a convertable for him . Even after calling Dollar in Sanford direct to make sure he would get either a Mustang or a sebring he was given a P.T Cruiser , this is a laughing stock of a convertable . my son is 6ft 3inch and he and his girlfriend could hardly get into the car it was so small . He called me in the u.k at 2am to try and get it sorted , I called Dollar from the u.k and was told that a p.t cruiser is what they have at Sandford so he could either take it or leave it . This totally ruined our surprise engagement gift to my son and his girlfriend .
They were then told to take the car and they could swap for a sebring at Kissimmee [ nearest office ] when they went there 2 days later ,they did not know anything about the car being changed , so no joy again .
I have since got in touch with a senior person in Dollars customer relations dept [ by going through Dollar U.K ] , she admitted that a P.T cruiser is a class below the usual convertable , and that we should not have been given it , indeed it is usually policy to offer an upgrade NOT a downgrade if they dont have your chosen car .
I have been told that a partial refund will be made and that a free upgrade will be made available when we vist in Sept [ wont hold my breath on that one .

All this and he has a dollar express card , oh and by the way at Sanford even if you make yourself known they said you have to stand in line like everyone else .

I'm glad to hear Dollar agreed to offer some refund, but note, the PT Cruiser is in exactly the same class as any of their other convertibles, so you should expect to receive one (we do state this on our site).

Was the Dollar Express ID on your voucher? If so, then you should not have had to queue. If the Express ID is not on your voucher then they usually do make you queue (defeating the main object of having Express membership).

Although in your case the PT Cruiser was not what you wanted, most people love these and we get many requests from people desperate to ensure this is what they ARE allocated. As I've said before, it's one of those cars you either love them or hate them.

Roger my son and his girlfriend have booked a convertible from Sanford with Dollar. Do you think he might be better changing to Alamo (or maybe even Budget?) where I believe he can choose his own car? He doesn't want a PT Cruiser.

Roger .

The info you have given is totally different from what the Dollar USA head office told me , I was told that a p.t cruiser is a class below a sebring/ mustang , . Also a P.T cruiser is listed on their display card as being only able to take 1 case , when my son asked how he was supposed to get 2 cases to our villa he was told and I qoate : this is not our problem ,but why dont you put it on the back seat : very safe I,M sure , the other thing is my son had the presence of mind to record the conversation with the dollar desk on his mobile ,as this is not the first time we have had problems with them . Re the dollar express , the number was not listed on his booking form , but he did have a card sent to him by Dollar ,so apart from causing a scene at the desk ,there was not much he could do .
The booking was not made through you Roger , so I am aware you may have been told different info , but I have kept a note of all names and dates of conversations with Dollar , as I am totally fed up with
this Shoddy service ,that can ruin ones holiday .

If you are interested I can P.M you with name of the head of customer service I spoke to , who gave me the info on the P.T cruiser

If you book through Dollar directly (more expensive) then the PT Cruiser convertible is a different class (and in fact Dollar state the PT Cruiser holds more luggage than the Sebring) so they are partly correct, but when you book through an agent (whether it be us or someone else) a convertible is a convertible, and you may get a Sebring, Mustang, VW Beetle, PT Cruiser or any other 4 seat convertible.

Any reputable agent should list as many possible car types on their site they you may be allocated.

Each supplier (Dollar, Budget, Alamo etc) will have certain cars in each class that you are most likely to be allocated, but can never guarantee a specific make / model.

With the Dollar Express, the number must be printed on your voucher in order to skip the queue. If you just have your Express ID card, then you can not skip the queue if the agent didnt add your Express ID to the voucher. Very few agents have the ability to do this (we can of course )

Hi, I've already booked a car through Alamo but i'm goin to upgrade it to a convertible when i get there. Does the mustang cost any more than the sebring to hire?

Thanks Julie

this will probably cost you a small fortune doing it direct with Alamo, you are far better upgrading through Roger before going (presuming you have booked through uscarhire).

just an update on our p.t cruiser situation , My son did not book through Rodgers site ,but used another well know site easily found on the top 3 of google . Any way the upshot is Dollar has given him a $150 refund because he was given a pt cruiser instead of a sebring /mustang. They also admitted to us that a pt cruiser is a class under the other two . We did not hassle dollar for this refund we just sent an email via our booking agent to ask why its listed that you get a sebring/mustang then get the much smaller car . we received a phone call from Dollars customers service manager and she couldnt be nicer and apologised for my sons treatment at sanford. However we wont book a convertable again because I am sure this will probably happen again.

We booked a convertable in April with Budget but we were given a Sebring, they had no Mustang available that day
My husband was originally a little disapointed but we got a new Sebring and i must admit we really enjoyed it
We dropped it off in Port Canaveral to get our cruise and on our return to the Budget office were given a Mustang
The icing on the cake as far as my husband was concerned
Now my son wants us to book one for August but he too would want the Mustang and now i know there is a chance he wouldn't bet one i'm not too keen (even though i liked the Sebring more, so.....)

That's good to hear, although I would say to anyone not to bank on a refund if you are allocated a PT Cruiser, as it really depends which person at Dollar happens to deal with the complaint. I'd always prefer to err on the side of caution and tell people not to expect they can be compensated if they are allocated a PT cruiser.

Hi again,

Did not want to start a new thread just to ask one question.

Whats the nearest pick up point from Windsor in Remington and just wanted to check the advice was still the same, Mustang = Budget, obviously, no guarantees.

OOOOHH, getting close now (25th Sept)

Re the Mustang question, I know that some companies (eg Hertz with their FUN Collection I think do) offer a guaranteed specific vehicle, but of course you will pay for that service
