Has anyone bought prescription glasses from America, can you use a UK prescription or do you need to get them tested in America and also can anyone recommend places to buy glasses in the Orlando area.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Wallmart do them and you are covered for repairs etc at Asda here in the UK. I took my own frames in and they put the lenses in for me.Just take your UK prescription in nothing else to do. I am sure it cost me $59,00 dollars for two pair. My glasses are only for reading so if you are after stronger or bi-focal they would proberbly cost more. The only thing I would strongly advise is to go as soon as you get there as some can take up to 10 days to get done.

I managed to lose my glasses at Christmas and needed some more for driving. I wwent to Walmarts outside Southern Dunes for my eye test which was $48 and a new pair of glasses. I have not had any problems with them at all. The eye exam was better than in the UK and the glasses were cheaper. Will use Walmarts again in future.

Do they do any designer ranges or is it just their own brand?

We always use Lenscrafters in Mall of Mallenia. Excellent choice of frames, reasonable prices compared to UK and fantastic 'aftercare service' should you need it.

They will change the lens/frames for upto 12 months after you bought them if you do not get on with them.

I looked at this last year and at Sears and walmart, both quoted 14 days delivery. If you can get a quicker delivery, great value.

I looked into it. Its a lot cheaper. My mistake was that I left it until I was over halfway through my vacation and the shops could not deliver them before I went home. I did not want to have them mailed to me.

Next time I'll shop for them at the start of my holiday.

When I got mine they definitely had designer ranges however I opted for the metal memory frames so I can bend them back into shape as I have a habit of bending the normal ones out of shape. I also had thin lenses, anti glare, transitions or the 'all singing and dancing' type.

As we are members, we have been using Costco for some years now for glasses and contact lenses. A couple of years ago, we popped into the Costco on OBT, and just asked if they would fill the perscriptions from the UK, no problems at all. We now always pop in and top up on contacts and glasses when needed. Prices are incredibly good, as said half price and less in some cases. If you are a member here in the UK it is certainly worth the trip!!
Ginger works at the opticians in the OBT branch of Costco, and she is VERY helpful. It is almost as high on our list as the theme parks

Philip used Lenscrafters in the Florida Mall whilst we were there in January and had an eye test and new glasses in about an hour and a half. Got Rayban frames at a fraction of what they would cost here in the UK.
