| | Over the years we have brought back lots of big items like a bike, BBQ, pram, car seats.... Now we do smaller things with children in tow normally medical supplies, clothes for all of us, DIY items, towels, bed in a bag bedding, saucepans, Xmas decorations, DVD's, books, cosmetics, bags...oh just about everything! In fact I must start my shopping list for our trip in May!! Several occasions we have had to buy the bag the items go into to come home!! | Camilla & Neil

Seriously - what are the limits?
Thanks.
145 quid each..... dont forget just how cheap it is over there, a lot of my dog toys were in the dollar box in target!! also love dollar tree!!!
Thanks for the replies, people. There are 6 of us travelling, with the youngest being 6 years old - does the 145 quid allowance apply to everyone? Even my kids?
Ta.
Duty free allowances apply to all ages but...
* If you are under 17 you cannot have the tobacco and alcohol allowances. * You are entitled to these allowances only if you travel with the goods and do not sell them. * If you bring in something worth more than the limit of £145, you must pay charges on the full value, not just the value above £145. * You and anyone you are travelling with cannot pool your individual allowances to bring in an item worth more than the limit. You will have to pay charges on the full value of the item. * If you are bringing back any duty-free or tax-free goods you bought when you left the UK, these count as part of your allowance.
£145 worth of all other goods including gifts and souvenirs.
If you have any more than this allowance you must declare the goods in the red channel or use the red point phone. If you do not, you are breaking the law and we may prosecute you.

That's a great reply
I am back again in July and one of my sisters has started a tradition of bringing back Disney Christmas Tree decorations for all tha family, so I will be getting more this time.
One thing I won't be bringing back this time is a Mickey keyring. The head, body, arms and legs, feet and hands are all screwed together but in a matter of weeks all I'm ever left with is the head

| This thread has definitely made me feel better . My kids always accuse me of going over the top with my purchases which apart from clothes have included mouthwash (the 2 litre bottles of Listerine was going for $3 - they cost £3 for the 500ml here so couldn't resist), Nesquik choc powder (large tins), oven cleaner, saucepans, bed sets, towels, kitchen gagdets, bikes and loads more. | Adeline

| I always bring back a supply of Glad wrap press n seal and the freezer wrap. It's so much better than clingfilm I find, although first time hubby I used it to wrap hubbys sandwiches he said they were very nearly thrown across the room as he couldn't get the packet open for about 10 mins.
Last time we also had a jewellry box we had bought for our daughter for Christmas. Haven't seen them here but ho doubt they will be available soon, its' about 2 feet square by about 4" deep and hangs on the wall. The front has photo mount spaces all over and then when you open it, it's all lined for jewellry. It wasn't opened by customs which surprised me as we knew we'd have to put it through separately as a piece of our luggage allowance so I packed it with some of the dozen books she had left for us to bring, along with make up and any other bits of pieces of clothing I could get down the side to pad it out etc.
When our daughter came home from Boston she had 32 books with her (thats why she'd left us a dozen to bring home.
