| Hi, we have booked a cruise for December and I was looking at the various forums and I noticed there is a Going on a Cruise? forum. However it is in the Villa Owners Area and is therefore locked so I can't access it. Is there a reason for this? Do only villa owners go on cruises? lol, just curious really | | Report this post to a moderator |

| Hey Martin as a complete novice cruiser, I'm willing to put myself forward (if the site adminisrators will pay for it) to spend a 1/3rd of next year becoming an expert and writing trip reports.
I happened to get an email from Crystal cruises yesterday and this one rather appealed to me.
Date / Cruise # Days Destinations Fares Jan 21 / V9302F 106 Round-trip Los Angeles Deluxe Staterooms from $54,135 Verandah Staterooms from $60,630
(The 106 is the number of days of the trip).:) When can I book it, please? | Babblin Boo http://www.orlandovillas.com/villas/92.aspx

| i too saw a cruise for 106 days in the travel agents just today Steph, well we can all dream
Martin, i think your answer is very disappointing and screams "them" and "us" and i think it's not the case of needing an expert forum dedicated to cruising to places all over the world
i would be sincerely interested in the number of villa owners who "cruise together" that would warrant to keep this in a villa owners area and i'm sad to read your reply
perhaps as non villa owners we have no valuable input or need for such information regarding cruising from florida?
shame
Going on a cruise? A place for anyone interested in going on one of the many cruises from Florida's ports to discuss things.
above is the heading from the villa owners section
it mentions nothing about experts? and i would like to know why it can be discussed in a villa owners area and not on the whole forum,i think "owners cruising together" as a reason given for not being available to all is a very poor one | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |

| quote: Originally posted by blott I think Martin explained it quite well in that this forum is all about visiting Florida, renting villas, park tickets, car hire, etc and not about cruising to other destinations. It's a bit like asking for a section on Spain or the Caribbean.
i don't agree after all we have this section open to all
Outside Orlando Area If you want to know what is out there beyond the limits of the Orlando area, this is the place to look.
and we have a cruise section for villa owners only
you could say that the cruise section fits into the outside orlando area perfectly so i cannot understand why we need to have one for villa owners only
i'm not talking cruising all over the world but to and from the florida area
i was going to write a nice detailled trip report from our upcoming disney cruise but i think i might just not bother seems it's villa owners only who it might be of interest too and i don't get access to that locked away section | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |

| Yes, I agree we have a section for Outside Orlando area - this relates to the rest of Florida, otherwise it would be called the Outside Florida area.
The only thing that Florida has in common with cruises is that some of them start and end there but they are all cruises to other destinations outside Florida.
Mizzy it's your choice whether to write a trip report about your cruise or not.
Ultimately, it's John and Roger's forum so the final decision is up to them. | Blott www.orlandovillas.com/villas/150.aspx

| OOOh thanks Martin:)
Mizzy I can understand where the confusion seems to have stemmed from. Originally the forum was started in the main as a benefit to the Guests of villa owners who rented from us to enhance their holiday experiences by giving more information than they would ever be able to get from travel agents about staying in Florida and particularly the areas where our villas are located. Many of us found we were all answering the same questions to our guests and also other owners and guests have other experiences and places to recommend which, even as constant visitors ourselves, we can never get to all the places to discover for ourselves.
It was never intended to be a general holiday information site which is why there is no section dedicated to "where can I find the best hotel in FLorida", ultimately by promoting a cruise section it could be detrimental to the owners who advertise on here as it may pull guests away to a service that we don't offer and away from villa rentals.
It's exactly the same with any Travel agent website or Disney etc. they do not want to give free advertising to their competitors.
It's to John and Rogers credit that the Forum and Guide have become so well publicised that people think it is a general vacation forum and that they do allow a large amount of leeway when allowimg posts perhaps where people have promoted a certain hotel etc. to stay and not kept totally to the villa rentals. If you look at the posts from those who have booked with Airtours etc asking for help on where their communities might be etc, it would be easy to say, Airtours have taken your money , ask them to provide you with the support, if you don't want/trust individual villa owners enough to book with them why should you benefit from the individual support you get from them? However we do try and help them and show them the service they could expect by being more independant.
