Hi, there are 6 of us coming over in August this year(can't wait) what I need to know is other than mobiles, are there any other ways in which we can keep in touch with each other while we are in the parks etc? Our children are aged 21,20 and 17 plus fiancee aged 22, so I know there will be times when they might want to go off and do their own thing!! I seem to remember when we were there some years ago seeing a family with walkie talkies!!

Walkie talkies are available at very good prices in Walmart. They are an excellent way to keep in touch at the parks..................and when shopping

If you're staying in a villa, then ask your owner as walkie talkies are available for guest use in some homes.

Please don't use any walkie talkies that you may purchase in the US in the UK and vice versa as they use emergency services frequencies in the other country and are illegal. If you purchase any, just keep them for the next time you visit Florida.

If you buy your own, they are very reasonable. Just ensure you tune them to a number not commonly used, so you don't get lots of other people speaking to you!

I was considering this option but heard bad reports on the quality of the communications in the parks with so many people using them etc

I belive there is an alternative kid of pay as you go phone system also available from Walmart / Target etc that is supposedly quite good and cheap

is it tracphones ??

I wouldn't recommend a tracphone, it may be cheaper to just use your UK mobile. Contact your providor and ask if they have any plans for in the US or, buy a sim card in the US for use on your holiday.

You can also use the walkie talkies in the big shops. So, if you all decide to go to Walmartfor example, you can each do your own thing instead of all trouping around together. The shops are much bigger than the UK and these areideal for finding each other.

Texting to your own mobiles is quite cheap-we used it a lot -"meet you outside such and such a place in 10 minutes" sort of thing-worked a treat

If your not bothered what phone you get, you can usually pick up the older model virgin mobiles from Walmart for as little as $14.95 each.
Then just buy top up cards to keep them active.
The lowest value top up is $20 again sold in Walmart.

This is a much cheaper way than using uk mobiles and has no range limitations unlike walkie talkies.
