Does anyone know if I book the 8 seater SUV from Budget - I'll definitely get the Ford Expedition?

I am not sure anyone can say definitely but there are not many 8 Seater SUV's even in the USA. I think the only other one would be from GMC.

We booked one through this site last year and it was indeed a Ford Expedition there were 2 available and we took one which had a longer wheelbase and I would recommend this one for the extra luggage room alone.

Absolutely fantastic car and much better than Mr T's Minivan for 8 people.

We also had a standard car so we could split our party up and go to two destinations or all travel together in 'The Beast' as it became known. We spent 4 hours in a traffic jam coming back from the Space Shuttle launch and then it got a bit uncomfortable for some in the back but for 1-2 hour trips with 8 it was the perfect choice.

Mr E.

I would say a very strong chance of getting an expedition, the GMC is a suburban, very similar to expedition, definately go for the EL- longer wheelbase for luggage space,if get the chance, we own an 8 seater ford excursion in the UK and it has a huge amount of space, fantastic drive too, but not sure if the car rentals use them as terrible mpg

I'd have to say no. Bit of a story here but bear with me.

We arrived on the 6th March 08 having booked the 8 Seater SUV from budget through USCARHIRE in January.

On arrial at MCO, the clerk took our voucher, went to the office and collected a set of keys. He then started to go through the usual motions but I stopped him as I could tell the keys were not Ford. He told me that it was a Dodge Durango and that it was just as good as the Expedition. This is my 9th trip to Florida and I also have family in NC that we visit regularly so I know my US cars.

I complained so he went back to the office, came back 10 seconds later saying I'd have to wait an hour. I think this is standard spiel so called his bluff and said OK, I'll wait. Then he went away again. This time for a minute or two and now I'm getting the "Take the Durango and bring it back to swap in the morning" speech.

I called over his supervisor and she agreed that the Durango was a lower class and that they would waive any fuel used in the Durango until the Expediton was ready.

Anyway, we collected the Durango which is an OK car, but not really 8 seats and was absolutley bog standard, cloth seats, bumpers not colour coded, only had electric windows and central locking etc.

Called again the next morning. No Expeditions.
Called a further 4 times that day.

Then tried again and again over the next 4 days. By this time, I was ready to give up and they had offered us other cars such as the Toyota FJ (odd looking 2 door jeep) and Hummer H3 (too small with windows the size of a letter box)

I had read on this forum about a guy in the same position but thought he hadn't tried enough. I think I had tried pretty hard and gave up. Didn't want it to rule our Holiday.

So to Conclude, over 5 days this month they didn't have one, so they can't have that many on their fleet. Everyone in the office knew I was waiting for one and I was on first name terms with some of the Budget Staff so I'm sure the first one in would have been mine.
