I'm staying on Highlands in April, the house carries a resort pass to Regal Palms which I believe has an internet cafe?

Anyway the question(s) is, will I be able to charge a UK laptop using a US adaptor, will it function on a US internet cafe and finally, is there any way I can hook up to broadband actually within the house for a couple of weeks?

Many thanks folks and whilst I'm on, I play off 12 and don't fancy hacking around with my two teenage kids for the entire holiday so if anybody fancies a round let me know, 2nd April to 15th April.

Not sure about the US adaptor question but if you contact the owner of the villa you have booked they should be able to tell you if they have broadband.

John, if you are using a UK computer all you will need is an adaptor plug. These are readily available at the airports and we have recently bought a double one which is much sturdier than the single ones which are widely sold.

It will charge using this adaptor.

Have you asked your owner about iternet access? Why not ask if they can set it up for you?

We use ours all the time, and having wireless internet access has been a great bonus as we can sit by the pool and answer emails etc. I am sure your laptop will work at an internet cafe - just take your adaptor plug with you.

Hope you have a great time.

Ellie

When I use my UK laptop in the US I use a simple power plug converter (UK mains plug to a US mains plug). Just check that you laptop power supply is rated from 115 to 220V at least and 50-60Hz. Mine is rated at 100 to 240V.

Re the other questions - I also recommed you ask the owner

John,
I have stayed at regal Palms and there is wireless internet access all around the reception, pool and bar area. So if you can't get access at you villa you can nip over there, get a nice cool beer and sit in the terrace whilst surfing the internet!

Diane.

Hi

It's unlikely that you'll pick up the wireless from the clubhouse to the house on Highlands.. The range is not that long. Sometimes I can get it whilst sat at the resort pool but most times can't.
A lot of owners have wireless now as standard so have a chat with the owner.

I've spoken with him, he's not very techy nad wouldn't know where to start. The house whilst on Highlands is right next to Regal Palms and whilst I don't expect the signal will go thta far I may wander around the pool area and see if I get lucky. Failing that $15 it is then..

ANOTHER daft question. Would a lap top bought in WalMart work in the UK?

I did say it was a daft question...

Don't forget if you buy a laptop in the US you will have to pay tax when you bring it back into the UK.

Also they keyboard layout is not quite the same as a UK laptop, one thing I miss on mine is the £ key which is not on a US laptop. It would also be worth checking to see if the power controller is available in the UK as I found my Toshiba needed new adapter leads.

What's a power controller? Adapter leads? You can change the settings to UK can you not so how does the £key work on a US machine if it's not on the keyboard?

I think I'll go to PC World..
