I am going to be in Florida on Independence Day this year and I was wondering if anyone has advice about what to do, or places to go during both the day and evening. Thanks Paul

Hi,
we were there for July 4th in 2006 and we went to a fab street party in Celebration. There are some of our photos here http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/topic_32146.asp and here http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/topic_32163.asp to wet your appetite. I think from memory we gave the parks a miss that day as because it was a national holiday they would be heaving.

At Celebration it was really hot so plenty of fans and water were sprayed onto the street, free bottles of water from a plastic surgeon if I remember right??? and all the restaurants had stalls selling their wares. There was music and entertainment throughout, kids activities and stilt walkers ect,all finished off with fireworks over the lake and ticker tape (well it was more like loo roll actually) like only the Americans can do!

It was a great day out!

Last time we were there on Independance day, we travelled to Busch gardens and couldn't believe all the fireworks we saw on the drive back.

Mrs Brizzle - that looks like a wonderful day and night. I too will be spending my first 4th July in Orlando and I quite fancy the party at Celebration. Is it free to go - or is that a silly question.

We will be out there on the 4th of July for the first time this year so Celebration might be the place to go to.

We often go over to St Pete Beach and watch the fireworks while in the sea - very surreal when you're used to fireworks at Halloween in N Ireland

Hi again,
yes it's all free. There is a list of the entertainment schedule I posted here - http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/topic_43117.asp

This year we will be going to the st paddy's day event - wonder if it will be as good!

Those of you who will be there for July 4th you will have a ball. The festivities at Celebration are great something for everyone in the family , and the fireworks to finish it all off are spectacular . Lots have been written in this forum on July 4th celebrations. Also for those who are interested in shopping the July 4th sales are great and you will get even more value for your dollar. My husband came away from Maceys with incredable value in mens clothing with the sale offers and the 11% Tourist card discount . We will sadly miss being there this year.

Mrs Brizzle and Orlandodaze. Thank you so much for this information. Great stuff. So it looks like it would be wise to hit the 4th July sales then head over to Celebration for a celebration. I wonder now what the car parks will be like?

The earlier you get to Celebration the closer to the action you will get parking. Its ok going but later on after the Fireworks its a bit of a pain carrying tired children a long distance to where your car is . Have a great holiday Helen.

Good advice there Olive. This place never fails to amaze me. All questions big and small answered quickly and by people who have first hand experience. Many thanks.

Yes we were there fairly early and the streets were already very parked up as the main lake area is closed to traffic. After a few turns down side streets though we did find a parking space quite close.

If you have little ones do take a towel as they love to get wet in that fountain. Also a lot of American families stake out their pitch around the lake early on with loungers, picnic hampers, mini fridges with radios in ect lol!!

Also if you google celebration town centre you should find their website, and if you sign up to the newsletter you should get e-mails with the upcoming events info.

Hey guys.
Thank you all so much for this information. It has been really helpful. It was metioned about an 11% tourist discount card. What is it and how do you get one? Also what time do the festivites in Celebration start and finish?
Thanks
Paul

Helen, Its called a Welcome Savings Pass and you tke along ID to prove that you are a tourist and this pass entitles you to 11%off most merchandise with very few exceptions and the great thing is is is also off sale and clearance items .Its available at Macys 800 stores throughout the continent also Hawaii,Guam and Puerto Rico. Check out Macys website for more information. Personally I find the males in the family do better than the females in the clothing dept.,but I usually get great value in designer bags .

The 11% tourist discount is brilliant, but unfortunately cannot be used at the perfume counter in Macys

Unfortunately yes.

Celebration is on Highway 192 near Kissimmee. There's a shopping centre with a water tower with the name Celebration on it. Take that turning and keep going and you'll get to Celebration.
