Thanks for clarifying my understanding of Slimming World Julie, I had thought it was like Weight Watchers - whoops I may see if there is one near us and perhaps see whether I can get hubby to go along with me.

Hi girls -I know its been ages since I posted but things have been hectic as we have moved having decorated the new house from top to bottom before hand and doing up a house we bought as a buy to let -then came christmas and all that brings and now I have to go to Bristol to celebrate my Dads 90th the get ready to go to Florida on the 7th -luckily the BAA strike has been called off otherwise I would not have been a happy bunny.
Anyway I have been catching up on all the news and following your progresses and think you really all deserve pats on the back for coming through some of the trial and tribulations.

Brenda I can throughly recommend the SW way of eating to help your husband. When I started out on my SW journey august 2006 my husband thought it was all a load of tosh and it would never work .Well after seeing me lose 2 1/2 stone in 6 months - and staying there ever since - he decided that maybe it was worth a try so earlier in 2007 he asked if I thought it would work for him so after explaining that he would need to change some of his thoughts about what he ate and the ways it would be cooked he gave it a go and is now 3 st lighter and he say the same as I do you don't feel hungry following the plan and its is flexible enough to be able to have your favourite indulgence so once the mind set is correct the plan works and suits most people. My husband would never go to a class but I kept a food diary for him so he could see what type of meals he did better on-red or green- and also kept a record of his weight every week and now he is feeling the benefit of it all trouble is he is now the one saying he has nothing to wear as its all too big so he is hitting the shops in Florida next week not me .

I hope 2008 brings you all everything you desire and deserve and that your loved ones stay close ,healthy and happy.

Happy New Year to you all.

I have had a mixed last part of the year. Having had three months when I had no exercise because of my eye and also stopped going to SW classes I put on a stone. I returned to class in November and lost 7lbs, put 2.5lbs on over Christmas but after last night dread to think what damage I may have done. We had friends in and I drank and ate far too much including a fresh salmon mousse made with fresh cream and a delicious strawberry, cream and mereguine sweet.

There is also far too many goodies left in the house so I am going to have to be really strong and leave them for DH although he wants to loose a few pounds as well but he will have to finish all these goodies first.

I must loose a stone before we go on holiday, probably to Spain in March and then Florida in April/May.

Janny, that's a fantastic achievement, and is such a short time.

It's good to know that SW it a place for vegetarians, Frances. I am probably not a strict vegetarian as I eat some fish but no meat, whether red or white, or eggs, the latter because I have an allergy. I love all cheeses, vegetables and pastas.

After the Christmas excesses, today, we have started in earnest. Gone is the frying pan and I bought a new steamer yesterday. Sweets are on ration and I have stocked up with lots of fruit.

hey hang on a minute Brenda you can still use a frying pan and a wok, using a good quality non stick pan is essential and if you switch your regular oil to fry light or use a small amount of olive oil it's a good healthy switch to make

i use my frying pan for big brekkies and i have a skillet which i use with fry light for chicken and roasted veggies, stir frying is great as you get lots of veg into you, stir fry prawns with a sweet chilli sauce is gorgoeus and one of my favourite meals

like you Brenda i eat very little meat, i love quorn sausages and the spinach and ricotta ones that are meat free from tesco, my all time fav dish is these sausages with baked beans and sw chips, you can make a great fruit salad Brenda by using a small amount of diet lemonade or sugar free diluted juice as the liquid and sugar free jelllies are great for those with a sweet tooth

Janny and Jill, it's great to have you both back

Hope the appointment goes well Julie -I am sure it will.
Getting into the countdown for my trip now Fiona is there at the same time so we are meeting up and we can keep an eye on each other

Remember the saying girls
it's not what you eat between Christmas and new year that you watch but what you eat between new year and Christmas

so don't beat yourselves up over a few days of enjoyment with family and loved ones -think positive and get back into the swing of things .

Julie just popping in to say I am sure your appointment will go well, try not to worry. (I understand as I was awfully worried when I went in for all my tests recently and they kept me in but within 2 days I had my diagnosis and two days later I was operated on).

At least with your surgery around the corner your knee will hopefully improve.

I think the frying pan may be coming back - I haven't heard of fry light so will give it a go. I was really banishing the frying pan as my hubby is a fry-up freak. He enjoys cooking but lavishes his dishes with loads of butter, oil and cream, not good I think for healthy eating Thanks for the tips Mizzy

Best of luck with your hospital appointment tomorrow Julie

well done trudy, you must be feeling great

Brenda, if the frying pan is a good non stick one you can ditch the oil and butter and get away easy with using fry light and cream can be substitted in dishes with either very low fat fromage frais or quark (skimmed milk soft cheese) you can find fry light near the oils in the supermarket

Julie, the fruit cake wasn't my best decision but i was at the mil's and you know what a dragon she is, takes offence if the cake is refused so it's easier to say yes and then sneak most of it onto rogers plate whils't she's not looking, being very true to form whilst eating the cake she told me i'm getting fatter and must do something about it

Good luck tomorrow Julie, fingers crossed they will be able to sort you out.

Looking forward to meeting up with Janny in Florida, we've both had alot going on recently and despite living only about 1½hrs away from each other here not managed a get-together for a while.

Had a good day today until DH and ED decided they had to have chocolate tonight, so of course I kept them company! Still Janny is quite right no point in worrying about what we have eaten in the past fortnight, onwards and upwards for the rest of the year. I am planning my next op for March (have to come off the Tamoxifen 6 weeks before so does take some planning), so I need to keep on track. Am going back to SW when I get back from my hols.

Found some unused veggies in the bottom of the fridge tonight, so am making a huge veggie soup tomorrow - sounds as if we will need something warm and nourishing if the weather forecasts are correct. Must be out with the hounds early before the snow sets in.

Welcome to the newbies. I haven't posted for a while as we have been very busy out here in Florida. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous until last night and a cold front has come over and it's freezing going down to 28 f tonight! It's really funny though hearing them talk about it on tv.

Good luck with your appointment today Julie hope you get good news on the date of your op.

Food wise I haven't over eaten whilst here so hoping to have stayed the same back to SW as soon as I return next week,

Happy New Year to you all and lets hope for some great weight losses this year

Haven't posted in ages - sorry

My pc at home is poorly and this is my first day back at work after the hols

I'm afraid I have been very naughty and eaten far too many treats - and I can certainly tell - my clothes are tight and I feel a bit yuk
No excercise either for one reason or another....

Julie - hope all goes well for you today and also hope you are back to normal after being sick over Christmas

I may be a few days late but I'd like to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2008

Julie

Happy New Year to you Julie, and lets hope the scales are not as bad as you think.

I have just weighed in and am very happy with only 1/2lb gain in the 2 weeks over Xmas. I feel I have got away lightly.

Only a few more days before San Diego and Florida so want to be good!

Hi everyone!

Didn't get to weigh in yesterday as I had to sort out the insurance after our shed was broken into! Weighed at home so feeling ok!

Had a good day yesterday and so far today is good too! Eating lots of fruit, melon satsumas etc. Only one more weigh in before my holiday so hoping to lose the weight I put on over Xmas. I think part of it was inactivity!! Back to work now so hoping for a good loss next week!

Have a good week everyone.

Frances
